Purpose of Activity/Assignment:
UNICEF Kosovo is in the first year of implementation of the new five-year programme cycle for the period 2021-2025. Empowerment of adolescents and young people is a key priority for this programme cycle. UNICEF aims to increase opportunities for adolescents and young people in Kosovo through enhancing their participation and equipping them with the critical skills for participation in the labour market and for becoming social agents of change in their community.
In line with the priorities outlined in the UNICEF Kosovo Programme 2021-2025, UNICEF Kosovo places a specific emphasis on leveraging new partnerships with public and private sector actors to coordinate efforts jointly for addressing the urgent need to invest in the second decade of children’s life.
One of the key elements of the support and response that UNICEF and its implementing partners provide to adolescents and young people in Kosovo is through a structured approach to mentorship, which is integrated in the skills-building and internship programmes. The Mentorship scheme aims to contribute to the empowerment and skills development of young people, to increase their capacities to participate in the workforce, policy-making, and various decision-making processes- individually and in their community-, through the engagement of professional young mentors from the public and private sector, including academia. . The professional mentors provide coaching and guidance to adolescents and youth participating in the UNICEF skills-building and internship programmes.
Scope of Work:
Under the supervision of the Youth and Adolescents Development Officer, the Mentorship Programme Development Consultant will support UNICEF Kosovo Office with the development of the Mentorship Training Manual for the UNICEF skills-building programmes and the Kosovo Generation Unlimited internship scheme.
Within the scope of work, the expected outputs of this consultancy are outlined below:
1. Conduct a desk research on the existing national and international mentorship schemes, tailored for adolescents and youth empowerment programmes that focus on experiential learning and internship schemes.
2. Organize and conduct focus group discussions with young beneficiaries of the UNICEF skills-building and internship programmes.
3. Organize and conduct focus group discussions with UNICEF key stakeholders, including Implementing partners of the skills-building, internship programmes and mentorship scheme.
4. Develop an outline of a Mentorship Training Manual that provides the tools and timeline of the mentor’s and mentee’s engagement to support the programmatic areas of skills-building and internship. The proposed materials to be developed should be fully coherent with the youth programme methodological approaches that UNICEF uses.
5. Develop the human-centered design and youth-oriented Mentorship Training Manual to support the “Mentorship Scheme” in response to the UNICEF Youth Programme. The manual will need to be customized to ensure that the following are considered:
a. UNICEF Kosovo Youth Programme is focused in adolescents and youth of 15-24 years old.
b. Materials are gender and equity responsive.
c. The content is appealing to mentors and mentees and can be transferred easily to youth in terms of language, and social and cultural relevance.
d. In developing the modules, the Consultant should include methodologies that stimulate social inclusion, are easily understood, and have the potential to be replicated or further developed in the future.
e. Apply a human-centered design.
6. Support and facilitate the implementation of the Mentorship Manual, through a series of capacity building trainings provided to UNICEF’s Implementing Partners and key stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications required:
Master’s Degree in Social Sciences
Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:
- University degree, preferably with master’s degree in social sciences.
- At least 5 years of experience working in formal or non-formal education, in fields related to youth development.
- Ability to write concisely, clearly, and under time pressure.
- Previous knowledge and working experience in the human centered design approach is considered an asset.
