GenU brings together leaders from governments, UN agencies, the private sector, academia, international and civil society organizations, and young people. The partnership will identify, co-create, resource and scale-up innovative solutions to expand opportunity for young people. Effective programmes will be matched with financing and technical support; investors will find viable solutions to invest in and strong accountability mechanisms that provide adequate assurance of results and fiscal management; and young people will participate meaningfully in the co-creation of solutions, informing, advising and helping implement at every step of the way.

How can you make a difference?

Under the direct supervision of Senior Advisor Partnerships and Resource Mobilization, the consultant will work on developing a partnership and funding model for GenU Sahel’s operational framework, which focuses on building a ready workforce in the sub-region.

This assignment will focus on developing a partnership and funding model for GenU Sahel’s operational framework, which focuses on building a ready workforce in the sub-region. It calls for an urgent, collective, and robust political leadership in Sahel countries. New ways for aligning, amplifying, and multiplying efforts of the public, private and multilateral sectors with and for youth in an innovative partnership paradigm. The partnership model will mobilize catalytic funding to accelerate action in the most vulnerable populations. And with action to align concrete government and organizational commitments with the private sector whose solution oriented products can link youth to opportunities (i.e. employment, entrepreneurship, social impact, skilling, upskilling and reskilling, career awareness, internships, apprenticeships, training, volunteerism, etc.). The model will build on the framework’s guidance on the implementation of this partnership, considering the commitment of the UN Special Coordinator’s office, UN regional offices and Generation Unlimited to intensify efforts to work with youth in the Sahel. Youth will play a key role in the partnership.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in marketing, economics, business administration, communications or other relevant disciplines is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Partnerships, Fundraising, public policy, international relations, initiatives including adolescents and youth in development and humanitarian contexts.
  • Experience and expertise in developing and maintaining good relationships with donors
  • The ability to work collaboratively with teams and in a diverse setting
  • Fluency in English is required, strong written and verbal competency is necessary
  • Working knowledge of another UN language an asset

Payment Methodology:

  • Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant. Monthly payment will be made, based on monthly tasks and progress reports, approved upon monthly review with supervisor
  • You are advised to take into consideration as part of your bid for the assignment the cost of health insurance.

  • Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage inclusive in the financial proposal.

TRAVEL (IF APPLICABLE)

The consultant is expected to work from NYHQ. The actual cost of a Return airplane ticket in Economy class including the visa fee and vaccination costs will be reimbursed in accordance with UNICEF Policy/procedure on official travel.

Health Insurance: 

Consultants and individual contractors are required to certify that they are covered by medical/health insurance. Consultants and individual contractors who are required to travel beyond commuting distance to duty station(s) with hardship ratings other than “H” and “A” shall also certify that their medical/health insurance covers medical evacuations.  UNICEF does not provide or arrange life or health insurance coverage for consultants and individual contractors, and consultants and individual contractors are not eligible to participate in the life or health insurance schemes available to United Nations staff members. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for assuming all costs related to required inoculations, vaccinations and medical examinations and reflect it as part of their bid for the assignment.  ONLY, in case of unforeseen official business travel, actual cost, including the visa fee, vaccination will be reimbursed in accordance with UNICEF Policy/procedure on official travel.

At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage and the consultant must provide proof of health insurance. Consultants and individual contractors are fully responsible for arranging, at their own expense, such life, health and other forms of insurance covering the period of their services as they consider appropriate.

U.S. Visa information, if applicable:  With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

If selected for this consultancy, the resulting appointment will be limited to Generation Unlimited (GEN U).
