The British Embassy in Rabat is looking for a dynamic team player to take up the position of an Intern to start in January 2022.

Main purpose of job:

This position is in the Political and Communications Team, which provides regular reporting to government departments in the UK and runs the British Embassy’s social media accounts and media engagement, as well as the organisation of Embassy events.

The Intern will contribute to political reporting on gender-related issues, leading on COVID-19 updates, work with the communications team to develop our social media presence, as well as supporting the Events Officer as we increase the number of face to face Embassy events.

The successful candidate will be adaptable, organised and a good communicator, who is able to engage with teams across the Embassy.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The Intern will be expected to fulfil the following objectives, as relevant: 

  • Lead on COVID-19 reporting, building the relevant knowledge and contacts to do so
  • Contribute to Embassy engagement on gender-related topics, including political reporting and events
  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions for Embassy communications campaigns and develop photographic and video material and messages for use on the British Embassy’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts
  • Create a contacts database for the Embassy, drawing on existing Microsoft Excel records and adapting to a bespoke system, before introducing processes to ensure data is kept up to date
  •  Administrative support to the political team, such as setting up meetings, translation and preparing formal correspondence for engagement with ministries

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

  • Good oral and written communications skills and a high standard of IT literacy, particularly with MS Office products.
  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain security clearance.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non negotiable gross salary of MAD 11,397 per month, inclusive of all allowances. However, employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount. The package includes a good level of medical insurance, 21 days of annual leave per annum (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays, access to on-site swimming pool, tennis court and gym facilities.

This is a full-time intern position, on a fixed term basis for three (3) months.

Conditioned working hours is 38 hours per week. Standard hours are 8.00 – 16.15 Mon-Thu and 8.00 – 13.00 Fri. The Embassy encourages flexible working, subject to operational need and line manager’s approval. Independent working will be tested as a competence in interviews.

The Embassy has a strong commitment to learning and development and all staff are required to agree a learning and development plan with their line manager.
