Position: Emergency Food Monitor

Location: Suran & Dana Field Offices

Assignment: The Emergency Food Monitoring under the supervision of the Food Safety and Quality Officer, the Food Monitor will support the implementation of ACTED’s food security and nutrition projects by providing close monitoring of food safety and nutrition related matters to the programme and logistic teams**

Summary م**

The role of the Emergency Food Monitor is to support the safe and effective implementation of ACTED’s food security-related projects. This will through the following key tasks:

· Providing quality checks on nutrition and food safety related matters to the programme and logistic teams.

· Ensuring that specific logistic and quality processes related to food items management are strictly followed at the field level.

· supporting the planning, implementation and reporting of food quality and safety checks.

Position profile:

1. Program Implementation

Objective 1.1: Support to Food Security projects.

The Emergency Food Monitor will:

  • Work with the Emergency Project Manager and Food Safety and Quality Officer to conduct strict quality checks for food supplies and local vendor being procured by ACTED.
  • Provide advice and support to the Logistics team on the correct processes for the safe storage, selection of safe food items and delivery of food items.
  • Ensuring that guidance provided to ACTED on appropriate food testing methodologies are implemented in all food-related procurements.
  • Performing sensory and technical examination of the food items available at the food vendors and supplier and make sure that ACTED beneficiaries receive safe food.
  • Support ACTED’s Monitoring and Evaluation team on the monitoring of nutrition indicators at the field level.
  • Performing educational sessions to ACTED beneficiaries related to nutrition and food safety and quality.
  • Supervising the packaging, loading, and offloading of the supplier and assure that these procedures confirms with ACTEDs Sops related to food safety.

Objective 1.2: Reporting ا

  • Ensure the proper documentation of all food quality checks; ensure that all relevant filing is properly organised, up-to-date and complete, and that it reaches the logistic department in a timely manner
  • Support the Food Safety and Quality Officer in preparing specific training materials and reporting
  • Provide regular reports to the Food Safety and Quality Officer on the progress of the implementation of activities and on observations made during the mission and collaborate closely with the AME unit as part of monitoring and evaluation activities.

2. Skills and Ability **

Required Knowledge and Experience:

· University degree in public health and/or nutrition or relevant.

  • 3 years’ experience in overseeing food safety and quality checks, including the sensory. examination and the use of laboratory testing of samples.
  • Fluency in Arabic and good English skills highly preferred.
  • NGOs experience, 2 years in relevant fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work under pressure and extra hours.

· Strong computer and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of safe storage practices for procured food rations
  • Ability to learn and adapt new skills.
  • Willingness to work under pressure and extra hours.

Key Working Relationships:

  • Supervised by: Food Safety and Quality Officer

  • Internal: Food Safety and Quality Officer, Emergency Project Manager, Senior Emergency officer, Emergency officer, Food Safety Enumerator AME, PR and Logistic teams.

  • External: Community Leaders, Local Councils, Contracted Vendors, Program Participants. Beneficiaries. **
