BACKGROUND

The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organization does — in programmes, in advocacy and in operations. In that regard, the CRC applies to all children in a country, not only of a country. Migrant and displaced children have the same rights, as enshrined in the CRC, as any other child. UNICEF’s Migration Unit in Programmes Division (PD) provides global programme leadership to achieve results for the most disadvantaged and excluded children everywhere, in response to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the international commitments related to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), and the follow-up of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and the Global Compact on Refugees. The Migration Unit works to protect the rights of all children affected by migration through providing crucial programming support and policy guidance to country and regional offices, having a direct impact of the lives of migrant and displaced children on the ground. The Unit also guides policy dialogue with governments and civil society partners and supports corporate campaigns. In 2020, the workload for the Migration Team significantly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in light of a strategic reprioritization process for 2020.  The consultant would assist in a period of high demand.
