Main purpose of the job:

To contribute in providing a high quality Housekeeping and F&B service at the official residence of the British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka in Colombo. This requires working closely with the Residence Manager and members of the High Commission’s residence team.

This is a full time role to work with the permanent household team of 4 or 5 members. This role performs tasks such as keeping the residence clean, delivering all official entertainment, all meal and other catering planning, preparation and service, preparing for and looking after guests, and some basic administration tasks. In addition, this requires supporting the delivery of events at the Residence, and on occasion elsewhere and also working with other teams across the High Commission.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Preparing the table, serving and clearing meals.
  • Washing and cleaning all tableware.
  • Keeping the residence interior clean and fit for purpose as well as the immediate areas outside the residence. 
  • Keeping silver and other items (door handles, lamp stands, etc.) polished and clean.
  • Preparing for and supporting the delivery of events at the Residence.
  • Preparing for, receiving, looking after, serving and seeing off the High Commissioner and his/her family as well as guests. 

Language requirements: 

Language: English and Sinhala / Tamil

Level of language required: Spoken 

Essential on arrival: 

  • Should be proactive in performing duties and helping others.

  • Good communication skills in Sinhalese or Tamil and English.

  • Be an active team player with a proven ability to work using own initiative.

  • Should have an enthusiastic attitude and willingness to deliver a professional service.

  • Be friendly and helpful and able to remain calmness under challenging circumstances.

  • Good level of attention to detail for housekeeping work.

  • Being courteous and supportive.

For British High Commission (BHC) candidates, the Local Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply. 

For other than BHC candidates, starting salary will be LKR 45,247 + EPF 12% + ETF 3% per month. Other benefits include 13 month’s salary (pro-rated) and medical insurance coverage.
