How can you make a difference?
The purpose of this consultancy is to help the Division of Communication embed racial justice within all our communication, advocacy, and campaigning.
DOC envisions this overarching engagement will be implemented over an estimated 8 months period, as per the phases described below, with contracts issued to cover the respective phase(s). Movement between phases will be based on and is subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Phase 1: Internal objective: help us apply an active racial equity lens to UNICEF advocacy, communication and campaign strategy development and implementation.

Provide expert advice and guidance on how to embed an actively anti-racist approach to advocacy, communication and campaign development.

Work with colleagues across the Division of Communication to ensure a sustainable shift in how we approach advocacy, communication and campaign development and implementation – helping to ensure this advice and guidance is fully utilized.

In consultation with Headquarters, Regional Office, National Committee and Country Office colleagues, propose solutions for strengthening UNICEF’s strategic approach to advocacy, communication and campaigning on issues of racism and discrimination.
Phase 2: External objective: to strengthen UNICEF’s external voice on tackling racism and discrimination, so we are confidently and credibly speaking out on these issues and their impact on children.

Develop robust external messages on racism, equity and discrimination – ensuring these messages are consistent, relevant and appropriate.

Support research and public policy development on the impact of racism and discrimination on children’s life outcomes.

We are either looking to recruit someone who brings this knowledge, or we will need to add a deliverable that includes getting up to speed if someone brings some but not all this knowledge. |

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Education
- University degree in Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, International Development, Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, or other related field.
Work experience
- At least five years professional or academic experience in anti-racism, diversity and inclusion, critical race theory or a related field, preferably with a global perspective
- Experience in operating independently at a senior level and in providing expert advice and support on anti-racism and anti-discrimination
- Knowledge of advocacy and campaigning good practice
- Strong track record in writing engaging and impactful communication messaging and content
- Demonstrated experience in design and management of projects and monitoring of results
- Knowledge of international development, humanitarian issues and childrens’ rights is an asset
- Experience working for an advocacy or campaigning organization e.g. international or national NGO, UN or other multilateral organization is an asset
- Experience working in a developing and emergency environment is an asset

- Demonstrated strong communication, presentation and writing skills are essential – a clear, concise, compelling writing style which is adaptable for different audiences, including mainstream public.

At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage
