Main purpose of job:

The British Embassy in Mexico City is looking for a Locally-Engaged Science & Innovation Intern to support the UK Government’s (HMG) work through the provision of analytical and administrative support to Newton Fund team. The position offers a unique opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and practical exposure to science and innovation policy and programmes.

 Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

The successful candidate will be expected (but not limited) to:

• Support the organisation of official events, within country regional visits and other high level engagements, including the preparation of agendas and arrangement of meetings.

• Maintain a stakeholder’s database and liaise with other teams on the embassy to consolidate an updated database.

• Consolidate a list on Newton Fund alumni, projects, impacts and success stories.

• High-level networking opportunities will be available for the successful candidate.

• All employees in the Embassy network are expected, as part of their job, to contribute towards the corporate activity of the organisation

• S/he will have the opportunity to provide logistical support for high-level international events and to senior members of staff. Database creation and management will also be part of the role

Language: Advanced level of English language required

Level of language required: Advanced, Band 6 in IELTS or its equivalent.

Studying or about to finish an undergraduate degree, excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as organisational skills, excellent standard of IT skills are required, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word and the ability to use these systems to produce reports and mail-shot communications.     

Experience working with different teams.

Experience in International Relations, communications or a degree related to both. Experience on events planning and international engagement, knowledge of Mexican science, technology and innovation environment. Good research and report writing, as well as invitation design skills.

Recent graduates and students in final year.
