The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) is a private diplomacy organisation founded on the principles of humanity, impartiality and independence. Its mission is to help prevent, mitigate, and resolve armed conflict through dialogue and mediation. HD has been working in relation to Syria since 2012 . HD works with all parties to the conflict to de-escalate tensions, reduce risks of conflict and establish a conducive environment for peace negotiations. HD is currently looking for a:

Temporary Project Officer Syria
Based in Geneva at 100% for a duration of 9 months
Starting date: January 2021

The successful candidate will cover for the current Project Officer Syria who will be on parental leave for a duration of 9 months. S/he will report to the Project Manager for Syria and Yemen and contribute to the implementation of HD’s Syria project on operational, strategic, administrative, financial and monitoring levels.

Her/his main responsibilities will be to:

  • Support the day-to-day operational management of the project, including implementation of activities;
  • Monitor the project’s compliance with the strategic framework and internal procedures and policies including financial and administrative;
  • Coordinate the operational work of project consultants and maintains regular contacts with the project team members in Geneva and in the region;
  • Monitor the political and security situation, developments relating to the conflict and impact on the project;
  • Oversee the redaction of contractual reports, including interim and final reports to donors;
  • Represent and promote HD in different contexts to parties and outside audiences in the Middle East and in Europe, including operational settings and donor events;
  • Evaluate the projects according to HD’s lifecycle and donors’ M&E models, and oversees the redaction of contractual reports including interim and final reports to donors;
  • Contribute to the design of project/fundraising proposals including concept notes and narrative project proposals.

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in conflict resolution/mediation, humanitarian field, political affairs, or peacebuilding;
  • Master degree in a relevant field such as peace studies, international relations, political or social science;
  • Strong understanding of the Syrian conflict and the Middle East region;
  • Excellent professional writing and oral communication skills in English;
  • Highly motivated and reliable individual, able to demonstrate initiative and confidence in dealing with senior practitioners.
