MAG is a Nobel Prize-winning organisation committed to creating safe and secure futures for women, men and children around the world. MAG works by finding and destroying landmines, cluster bombs and the explosive remnants of war and by advocating and campaigning on behalf of those whose lives are blighted by the lethal debris of conflict. We are an international organisation made up of a myriad of people of different backgrounds, cultures and ethnicities working in complex and often challenging operating environments.
MAG is committed to safeguarding the health and safety of all staff, partners, and beneficiaries and to providing a safe environment for anyone who comes into contact with our work. Whilst health and safety is an integral part of our operational planning and practice in the field, there are a range of other factors that can impact on staff, partners and beneficiaries that extend well beyond this, including road travel and safety in and around MAG facilities. The organisation currently works in over 25 countries around the globe and employs a diverse workforce of over 5,000 staff.
MAG is committed to doing its upmost to ensure the highest standards of health and safety good practice are implemented across its programmes globally, and minimise the risk of incidents affecting staff and other groups outlined above. A range of existing policies and guidelines are in place to support these efforts, the implementation of which are overseen by a board sub-committee focussed on health and safety (as well as the related areas of security and safeguarding).
In an effort to seek continual improvement in this area, MAG now plans to commission an independent review of current health and safety practice and culture encompassing all relevant aspects of the organisation.
We are looking for:
· Experts who are independent of MAG, with credible expertise, authoritative experience in Health and Safety issues and awareness of best practice across a wide range of organisations
· Experience of reviewing organisational practice and conducting reflective group discussions that can help gain insights into what staff feel about their work, values and how they regard the organisation
· Solid experience and understanding of working in an international NGO, along with proven ability to produce practical recommendations that will enable us to stretch our understanding of Health and Safety issues and support culture change. This will include measures that enable us to track, monitor and address areas we need to focus on.
