All Hands and Hearts is a disaster relief nonprofit. This position requires travel to our communal program bases which are located in the communities we serve. Strict controls will be maintained to promote health and safety at all times, however, there is potential for exposure to SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Position Purpose

A versatile position within a dynamic nonprofit that provides relief to survivors of natural disasters. The position is full-time and is responsible for supporting the development and capacity of the International Response team. This position will work directly with the International Response Manager to support operations and will be expected to travel on DART (Disaster Assessment Response Team) deployments for the organization.

COVID-19 Requirements

This role is expected to offer a Medium Level of exposure risk, according to the OSHA Classification of Risk of Worker Exposure to SARS-CoV-2.

  • Work with the Operations and Health, Safety and Security departments to develop and implement safety standards and protocols in response to COVID-19.

  • Follow national, regional and local regulations in addition to the AHAH COVID-19 guidelines.

  • If you feel unwell, experience any symptoms, or are aware that you have been in close contact with a lab certified case of COVID-19 within the last 14 days you should isolate immediately and notify your manager.

  • Actively participate in ongoing risk assessment.

  • Understand the risk of COVID-19 to you as an individual and notify your manager or the HR department if you have any concerns.

  • Accept that risk cannot be removed from this situation.

  • Give honest feedback.

Key Accountabilities

  • Deploy at short notice, to assess disaster impact regions across the world.

  • Under the guidance of the Response Manager, manage a small team in a high stress environment.

  • Under the guidance of the Response Manager, complete Assessments of the situation, communities, and beneficiaries to understand the needs of the affected population.

  • Under the guidance of the Response Manager, prepare reports, proposals and project design for projects in response to the needs on the ground.

  • Engage with stakeholders including local communities and local/national governments.

  • Identify hazards, perform risk assessments and prioritise the safety of the team both during the pre-deployment and deployment phases.

  • Monitor incoming weather events and lead the collection, organization, and communication of remote assessment data.

  • Conduct research in preparation of deployments to countries, including country and region-specific laws, customs, and regulations.

  • In collaboration with the International Response Manager, develop DART Ground Assessment Plans prior to a deployment.

  • Support the logistics and travel arrangements of other DART members.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Financial Responsibilities

  • Is this position responsible for the operating budget of the associated department? No

  • Does this position have any other financial responsibilities? Yes – manage expenditure during the assessment phase.

Position Requirements

  • Education High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Related Experience Must have a minimum of one year experience working for All Hands and Hearts or another disaster response / humanitarian organization.Experience in conducting assessments, research, interviewing and data collection preferred. Previous international travel experience, preferably in developing countries and post disaster environments. Knowledge of key standards, such as SPHERE & HAP.

  • Special Competencies/Certifications Good written and oral communication skills and confident working with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel. Applicants need to be well organized and have a flexible approach to managing multiple tasks and prioritizing them appropriately. The individual is able to manage a large workload and perform in a fast-paced environment. Additional languages are a benefit.

  • Work Environment/Conditions High frequency of travel required on short notice. High stress environments. Travelling into post disaster environments with limited amenities.
