Main purpose of job:
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK government department charged with promoting and financing international trade and development, and championing free trade. In Brazil, DIT operates within the British Embassy in Brasília, and Consulates in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Recife, with a team who work primarily through a number of sector specific export promotion campaigns.
This is a brilliant opportunity to work on one of the most important export campaigns for UK Government in Brazil. You will work as part of DIT’s Energy Team at the British Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, which is responsible for assisting O&G companies in their efforts to export and find strategic partnerships, providing commercial and administrative support.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:
Provide general assistance to sector team, which includes:
- Respond to enquiries from Brazilian and UK companies in Brazil.
- Assistance in the production of market analysis, lists of contacts, sector overview and small translations.
- Assistance in the organisation of events such as trade missions, receptions, seminars (travel bookings, visiting programmes, preparation of welcome packs, etc.) and attend official events when needed.
- Assist the team with the deliveries of OMIS reports (market reports) by contacting customers whenever necessary over the phone or by e-mails for follow-ups.
- Regularly update client relationship system (Data Hub) and keep internal databases updated.
- Keep sector charts, texts and presentations updated with accurate information.
- Keep the area’s documents, systems, spreadsheets, organised.
- Ad hoc duties as necessary (e.g. photocopies, setting up and accompanying meetings, escort visitors within the building, filing etc).
- The successful candidate should be a 2nd or 3rd year student in Administration, Economics, International Relations or other related disciplines, with a particular interest in international trade.
- Fluent in English and Portuguese (written and spoken).
- Good knowledge of MS Office software, particularly Excel and Word.
- Good research and report writing skills.
- The successful candidate must also have good interpersonal communication skills and be a strong team-player.
- Previous experience in working for a company or diplomatic mission is an advantage.
- Experience in organising events is a plus.
