ABOUT THE ROLE

Amnesty International’s Greater China programme seeks a Business and Human Rights expert to provide advice, research and analysis to in-progress projects. The projects are focused on Chinese business involvement in nickel mining in the Philippines and rosewood and crab fishing in Madagascar.

This consultancy is fixed-term part-time (3 days per week) for four months with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of two additional months. Ideal start date is week commencing 11 January.

JOB PURPOSE

As a key member of multi-disciplinary project teams of Amnesty colleagues and external partners in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Johannesburg and Madagascar, you will be responsible for,

  1. Drawing conclusions as to whether actual or potential human rights violations have been caused by the activities of companies under investigation and recommendations for change

  2. Documenting research findings, conclusions and recommendations in public-facing output in line with Amnesty’s quality assurance standards and tailored to the audience(s) most able to effect change

  3. Contributing to the design and delivery of an advocacy, campaign and communications strategy

ABOUT YOU: SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Your advice, research and analysis will be based on specialist knowledge in the field of business, economics and human rights at the international level and first-hand experience of undertaking high quality research on business and human rights issues.

You will demonstrate excellent political judgement and strong analytic ability as well as solid interpersonal skills to offer timely, succinct and accurate guidance to others.

You have experience working within a project framework, delivering to agreed deadlines, multitasking and working under pressure.

Excellent written and spoken English is essential; fluency in Mandarin, French or Tagalog/Visayan would be an advantage.
