Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:

The International Organization for Migration in Thailand has a strong presence in Thailand and is one of the largest country offices worldwide, with over 300 staff working on more than 20 active projects in 6 locations across the country. The IOM Mission in Thailand has a main office in central Bangkok and other project offices in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Mae Sariang and Mae Sot. With a portfolio of over 20 projects, the Mission regularly updates information regarding the needs of migrant populations, the progresses made for migration management, and proposes new activities and methodologies to address mobility issues. In this context, the Programme Support Unit is looking for an intern to support its work in strengthening IOM’s strategic work in Thailand, the tracking of its progress, and the positioning of the mission with national and international stakeholders.

Working under the direct supervision of the Programme Support Officer and the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, the intern will provide support in drafting content, collecting and consolidating information across IOM’s units and support the outreach work of the mission.

2. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Assist with project tracking, information management and communication functions;

  2. Assist in consolidating/drafting content in preparation of internal and external meetings, project reports and project proposals, minutes of meetings;

  3. Compile best practices, lessons learnt, experiences and stories on key thematic priorities;

  4. Support targeted background research on issues of strategic interest for the mission;

  5. Assist in the organization and execution of various events including trainings, workshops and meetings;

  6. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

4. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Either students approaching the end of their studies and preparing a thesis, or recently graduated; preferably with an advanced university degree from an accredited institution in communication, journalism, international relations, political or social science, business administration, or a related field.
  • Advanced English writing and editing skills. Photo/video skills an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office. Familiarity with design software, such as InDesign, would be highly regarded.
  • Experience or knowledge of successful approaches to working with NGOs, Embassies, or Cooperation stakeholders is an advantage.
  • Strong writing skills in English
  • Ability to work as part of a multicultural, multilingual team.
  • Creativity, initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable.

Only candidates residing in either the country of the duty station or from a location in a neighboring country that is within commuting distance of the duty station will be considered. In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighboring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.

General Information

a) Interns are granted stipend as per IOM policy as a partial contribution to accommodations and living expenses. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by his/her university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.
b) Before commencing work, successful candidates will be required to obtain a fit-to-work medical certificate from his/her doctor and submit vaccination records.
c) The Intern will be responsible for obtaining the necessary entry visa and arranging their travel to Bangkok. IOM will assist only in issuing documents required for visa processing.
d) IOM only covers the Intern against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. The Intern is responsible for his/her own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
e) Any work produced by interns during their internship within the framework of the duties assigned to them should be used for academic purposes exclusively. All economic and moral rights (copyright) pertaining to such work will remain the exclusive property of IOM.
f) Interns are bound by staff confidentiality rules pertaining to their duties in IOM.
