Level: Officer Classification: LE-07 Location: Canada House, Trafalgar Square SW1 Closing date for applications: 07-01-2021 at 23:59 UTC/GMT Summary of position: Working in the Commercial and Economic Division (CED) of the High Commission of Canada to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in London, under the general direction of the Investment Counsellor, the Associate Investment Officer (AIO) is part of a team responsible for the promotion and attraction of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Canada. The AIO provides direct support to the Investment Counsellor, Senior Investment Officers (IO) and Trade Commissioners on FDI-related files by conducting research, responding to investor inquiries, supporting and conducting investment lead generation and prospecting, supporting FDI aftercare, and assisting with FDI related events and logistics. The AIO ensures that the team’s information and data related to FDI are up to date, relevant and accessible, both to support operational objectives and reporting requirements. The AIO operates as an integral member of the CED team, and supports the larger objectives of the group with CED initiatives that fall outside of the FDI framework, as required. Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Experience: • At least a minimum of three* (3) years within the last 7 years of recent professional experience in either the public or private sector working in business development or FDI attraction or program delivery, in Canada or the UK; • Experience in establishing and maintaining positive client and stakeholder relationships and in providing client service support to customers; • Experience in project management; • Experience using business and web-based tools, technology (i.e. Microsoft Excel, eCRM systems, financial and FDI databases) for tracking and data management; Linguistic Profile: Professional written and oral communication in English Rated Requirements Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: cover letter, written test, oral communication, interview, and reference checks. Knowledge/Abilities/Competencies: • Knowledge of the role of governments in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI); • Knowledge of the factors that influence investment, expansion and relocation decisions, and of Canada’s value proposition for investors; • Knowledge of trends and recent developments in the Canadian and the UK economy; • Ability to secure, prepare for, participate in, and provide follow-up to investment outcalls and events (virtual or in-person); • Ability to source, research and compile information and data to provide advice and analysis; • Ability to use technology and social media tools for FDI promotion and lead generation; • Use of business tools and technology (i.e. Microsoft Excel, eCRM) for tracking and data management; • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, and to modify messages appropriately based on audience; • Establish and maintain positive relationships with a network of clients, partners and colleagues; • Ability to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines; • Sound judgement, initiative, and ability to work independently; • Teamwork/strong interpersonal skills Asset Qualifications: Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications. Candidates must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their cover letter. • The ability to communicate effectively in French both orally and in writing • A graduate degree from a recognized university Organizational Needs: Operational Requirements: • Must be able to work overtime on short notice on occasion and outside normal working hours (i.e. evenings and weekends); • Ability to travel when required Condition(s) of Employment: Hours of work will be 37.5 per week, worked Monday to Friday at time to be arranged by the supervisor.
