Main purpose of job:
We are looking for a dynamic and analytical candidate who is able deliver strong analytical and strategic thinking for the UK network in Brazil. The Trade and Economics Analyst is responsible for undertaking trade and economic reporting, policy work and producing reports and presentations on a regular and ad-hoc basis. This is a cross-cutting role within the Trade and Economics Team, and the successful candidate is expected to shift between trade and economic issues with flexibility – doing monitoring and supporting engagement on key strategic areas.
In addition to that, the successful candidate will provide key administrative support during technical and high-level visits and manage the Trade and Economics Team’s budget.
Roles and responsibilities
Trade and economic analysis
Produce and review analytical reports on Brazil’s latest trade and economic developments. Support the Senior Economics Officer to structure and present these reports to different departments across the UK network in Brazil, as well as Her Majesty’s Government in London. Provide valuable insights that will support and inform decision-making processes. Collect and handle trade and economic data from different data sources, supporting a variety of teams with evidence and expertise.
Policy engagement
Support the UK trade and economic diplomacy by mapping and engaging key stakeholders in Brazil. This includes maintaining and developing a stakeholder network within trade and economic areas of the Brazilian government and third-country Embassies. The successful candidate will attend technical and high-level meetings and produce timely and useful reports for a senior audience in Brazil and London.
This includes working on key bilateral and multilateral policy priorities of the UK in Brazil – such as OECD, WTO and G20, as well as ministerial trade and economic dialogues (JETCO/EFD).
Administrative support:
The successful candidate will manage the Trade and Economics Team budget. This includes updating financial spreadsheets and doing financial monitoring and planning to ensure that the team’s spending is on track. Additionally, the candidate will be required to provide administrative support during technical and ministerial-level visits or engagements – eventually scheduling meetings and events.
The candidate will be expected to work flexibly across the network’s priorities and engaging with several different teams.
Language requirements:
Language: English and Portuguese
Level of language required: Fluent
Other skills / experience / qualifications:
- Relevant university degree on Economics, International Relations or related areas;
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communications and writing skills in both English and Portuguese;
- Excellent computer skills, particularly with Excel (including both spreadsheet and graphical representation functions);
- Knowledge of key trade and economic databases;
- 2 years prior work experience in an office environment
- Advanced understanding of the Brazilian domestic economy and political landscape
- Advanced knowledge of Brazilian trade policy and ongoing negotiationsBudget management experience
- Experience of working with government or public institutions
- Experience in handling data
