Context:
The Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC) is part of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and responsible for providing all stakeholders with a better understanding of global migration data. GMDAC is involved in a variety of tasks including data analysis, capacity building and knowledge management.
Under the overall supervision of the Director of GMDAC and direct supervision of the Senior Programme Coordinator, maintaining the Global Migration Data Portal, the successful candidate will be responsible for compiling, describing, editing and presenting information on the different issues around migration data. S/he will contribute to several activities, including synthesizing data, drafting and editing, data visualization, webinars and general project support.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:

Compile, categorize and paraphrase data outputs according to several international migration themes to be displayed on the Migration Data Portal to keep it updated and timely.

Prepare and release the monthly Portal Alert with updates on migration data in different sections (Did you know section, map, blogs, etc.) to help foster outreach.

Compile, facilitate integration, synthesize and visualize migration data (e.g. on stocks, flows, remittances, integration, public opinion, potential migration etc.) and migration data country profiles and provide editorial input on infographics, and thematic pages for content creation and updates.

Assist in planning, encouraging, and editing blog contributions by leading experts in the migration field for timely contributions.

Support web development by contributing to feedback on layout, structure and design of the online Portal expansion.

Assist with editing and proofread pages on key migration themes.

Provide technical guidance or answer inquiries from Portal users on migration data.

Assist in planning and implementing webinars for promoting content on the portal.

Support the liaison with partners, including IOM Regional and Country Offices (COs).

Contribute technical inputs to support future development, up-scaling and evaluation of the Portal.

Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
• Master’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, Law, Economics and/or International Relations or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or
• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.
Experience
• Experience in journalistic writing for non-technical audiences desirable;
• Experienced team player, detail-oriented and ability to delivery outputs under agreed deadline and competing priorities;
• Experience in liaising with governmental authorities as well as with national and international institutions;
• Experience and sound understanding of internal and international migration data issues globally.
Skills
• Creativity and motivation to communicate complex information in a user-friendly way online.
• Knowledge of international migration data sources.
• Knowledge of MailChimp.
• Familiarity with Eventbrite and WebEx platforms desirable.
• Familiarity with Content Management Systems, such as Drupal, added advantage.
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
For this position, fluency in English and French and/or Spanish is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of German is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
