About the Role

As Senior Humanitarian Health Adviser – LEAD you will play a key role in leading and developing our humanitarian health strategy to ensure the greatest impact on child survival in complex environments. You will also work closely with our Emergency Health Unit, deploying as needed, to ensure the quality of our delivery, building our teams capability and developing options for innovative approaches to further child health outcomes.

This role gives you the opportunity for autonomous, collaborative working across public health disciplines and to contribute to the organisation’s next 3-year strategy.

Key accountabilities

In addition to the above, you will:

  • Lead on the development and delivery of the humanitarian health strategy for SCUK, ensuring that this is reflected in the Public Health on the Frontline strategy refresh, and the Global Theme strategy (2019-2021)

  • Grow, lead and manage the humanitarian health team, including developing and monitoring team work plans and trouble shooting as required

  • Maintain a strategic overview of health related issues affecting children in humanitarian contexts, monitoring trends, the external environment and inputting to organisational strategy and planning processes

  • Deploy to set up and manage new emergency health programmes in large emergencies

  • Provide leadership and management support to the Senior Humanitarian Health Advisor (Thematic) to drive thematic expertise support for humanitarian health responses.

Person profile

To be successful you will be a team player, leader and a self-starter with the ability to thrive in challenging environments. With a clinical background, you will have extensive health experience in humanitarian settings. You should have strong communication skills, both written and verbal and diplomacy appropriate for high level external representation. In addition, you will have:

  • A sound understanding of and commitment to Save the Children generic programme approaches and core standards in humanitarian response

  • Experience of managing budgets and working with limited resources

  • The ability to tailor communications to different audiences

  • Extensive experience of people management with a flexible approach to managing and prioritising a high and diverse workload in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines
  • The ability to travel at short notice, occasionally to remote and insecure locations for up to 30% of work time.

Working knowledge of French or Arabic is desirable.
