CONTEXT OF THE MISSION:

Within the Protection and Risk Reduction Division, Armed Violence Reduction strategy remains ambitious and foresees an increase of projects especially in conflict transformation the next years in addition to a more comprehensive armed violence reduction model. The transformational process generated by the ROOTS project reaffirms the strategic importance and scientific authority of technical directions while developing/strengthening HI conflict transformation model and intervention.

DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:

HI understands Conflict Transformation as the process by which people change situations, relationships or structures so that they become less violent, less conflictual and less unjust. It involves exploring alternative and more peaceful ways of settling differences and disputes. By focusing on the processes by which conflict develops into violence, it addresses the root causes of violent conflicts in order to prevent their emergence or resurgence.

To achieve HI’s strategic objective to become a comprehensive actor, working on reducing the impact of conventional weapons on civilian populations, HI is looking for a HQ Conflict Transformation Specialist skilled and experienced to translate conflict transformation theories into wide varieties of practical initiatives and methods to bring changes in conflict-affected areas.

Under the responsibility of the Armed Violence Reduction (AVR) Director, and within the Armed Violence Reduction Unit, the Conflict Transformation Specialist will have for main responsabilities:

1/Expertise
-Set framework and standards on the technical know-how
-Provide strategic technical guidance (operational support)
-Ensure the control of the technical quality and the relevance of HI’s activities (operational support)
-Contribute to the improvement of technical know-how through the development of lessons learnt, research and innovation projects (in close link with 3I Division)
-Facilitate the Technical Division professional development

2/influence
-Contribute to the international prestige and influence of HI’s expertise

3/Business development
-Contribute to the development of major opportunities or new projects, in line with the Technical Director, the Policy and Development Officer when relevant, and the Institutional Funding team

PROFILE THOUGHT:

-you hold a University Degree, preferably a Master in Conflict/Security issues, International Development, International Relations or other relevant subject
-you have at least 7 years of experience in conflict sensitivity/transformation sectors, and/or community-based social cohesion and peace-building
-you have excellent knowledge of project/programme cycle mechanisms and main MEAL tools and methods
-you have project management experience
-you have experience abroad in low and middle income countries
-you have experience in training engineering and knowledge of different pedagogical models
-you have excellent communication skills, as well as strong organisational skills
-you have excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills
-you know how to develop new resources or adapt existing resources in order to make them evolve when necessary
-you are able to work in a team, to network and cooperate
-you are resilient to stress and uncertainty
-you speak French and English fluently

JOB CONDITIONS:

• start date: 15th of Feburary 2021
• lentgh of the contract: open ended contract
• status: salaried contract, HQ based

• Package of 34 days of paid leaves and 13 days of RTT
