Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Common Services Assistant, the responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
• Providing transportation for all diplomatic and non-diplomatic staff in support of their daily activities, delivery and errand services to all mission programs;
• Providing basic administrative, maintenance and support services to the mission following established mission and departmental policies such as maintaining Embassy vehicle log and ensuring regular Embassy vehicle maintenance;
• Providing courier services for Embassy mail, including coordinating delivery and pick-up of diplomatic mail;
• Providing support to the property section during maintenance work at the Embassy and staff quarters.

 

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
• High School diploma from a recognized institution OR Federal Certificate of Competence (FCC)
• Valid class B driver’s license, obtained before 2010

Languages:
• Fluency in German (oral and written); language abilities will be tested and must reach at least level C1
• Fluency in English (oral and written); language abilities will be tested and must reach at least level B2

Experience:
• A minimum of three (3) years of recent* professional driving experience OR experience working for a diplomatic mission in any capacity
• Experience in Microsoft Office Suite; for example; Outlook, Word and Excel

*Recent is defined as within the last 10 years

Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:
• Thorough knowledge of Austrian and European driving rules and regulations
• Detailed knowledge of roads and destinations in Vienna and surroundings
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel) as well as Internet research skills

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
• Previous experience working as a driver for a diplomatic mission or international / governmental organization
• Experience dealing with VIPs/ dignitaries
• First aid certification
• Knowledge of French language or any other European languages

 

Organizational Needs:

 

Operational Requirements:
• Availability and willingness to work overtime when required
• Availability and willingness to travel occasionally and on short notice
• Normal work week is 40 hours per week
• Must be able to do physical tasks such as lift heavy boxes, occasionally help in moving furniture, clean vehicles, etc.
• The majority of the driving will take place in and around Vienna, but occasional multi-day trips to other regions in Austria or other European countries may be required.

 

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Able to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Reliability Status Clearance. Please note that the Reliability Status Clearance must be maintained throughout your employment at the Embassy as failure to do so may result in dismissal
• Must possess a valid permanent driver’s license, issued before 2010
• Must be able to meet the medical requirements as defined by the employer. Successful candidate(s) will be required to undergo a medical evaluation
