The British High Commission in Nicosia is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking to recruit for the position of Financial Sector Advisor.

The main purpose of the job is to design and deliver a pipeline of projects aimed at strenghtening the capacity of Cyprus’ financial sector. The jobholder will be required to build and maintain contacts across government, economic, business and academic sectors with a view to expanding UK-Cyprus collaboration.

The job will involve stenghtening existing and developing new engagement with Cyprus on a range of issues relating to the financial sector. This will include designing and leading implementation of specific projects to share expertise and build capacity between the UK and Cyprus. The jobholder will also be required to report to London on political-financial issues.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Proactively monitor and analyse for a UK audience Cyprus financial developments and their impact on the UK, and make recommendations as necessary;
  • Understand and lead on key financial dossiers; advise on engagement that contribututes to UK-Cyprus collaboration and objectives;
  • Lead on the design, delivery and evaluation on collaborative projects between the UK and Cyprus that help strengthen bilateral relationships;
  • Develop and use a broad network of contacts across government, economic, business and academic sectors.

  • Excellent written communication skills with a commitment to communicating clearly and in plain English and Greek (C1 level);
  • Relevant work experience in Economics and/or Finance area (minimum of 3 years of experience);
  • Ability to provide strategic input to support policy goals, including through project delivery;
  • Ability to make and use contacts, including at senior levels;
  • Very good IT skills, especially MS Office;
  • High-level project and programme management experience;
  • Ability to work under pressure both unsupervised and as part of a team;
  • Ability to assimilate information quickly and communicate it to others;
  • Self-motivation and initiative.

  • Experience working in an international environment;
  • Experience in financial investigation;
  • Relevant University level degree ( ie Economics, Finance).

This is a full-time and fixed-term contract and the gross monthly salary for this position is € 2328 at B3 (L) grade level.

The confirmation of appointment is subject to professional background checks and security clearance procedures, as well as the successful completion of a 6-month probation period. Security Vetting will be required at SC (Overseas).

The successful candidate must be free of any convictions, and undergo a UK security clearance process.
