- In order to achieve our ambitious goals while accounting for the all too real risks in a race against time, we need find new ways to work together – cross functionally, multi-disciplinarily, synergistically across the entire Supply function, at a scale and pace unlike ever before, working with both partners within UNICEF and externally in the public and private sector.
- The result is the need for coordination across SD and the creation of the ACT-A/COVAX Coordination Secretariat, to help the Division respond to this monumental challenge, while striving to accelerate and achieve results to help end the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- The Secretariat has been established as a time-limited emergency response and is already in place. The Secretariat is seeking a highly qualified individual contractor who can contribute to the achievement of its objectives in the coming year.
How can you make a difference?
As a member of the Secretariat, the Information Specialist will contribute to shaping the way information is researched, gathered, aggregated and analyzed and the design and communication of information both within UNICEF and externally, targeting different audiences.
1. Under the supervision of the ACT-A/COVAX Coordinator and based on what is assigned to the Information Specialist, contribute to the Secretariat’s successful management and dissemination of information, including tasks such as the following:
i. Design information sharing tools including slide decks, websites, databases and sharepoint sites, customized for different audiences and updated on a bi-weekly basis
ii. Help collate and update technical content for FAQ’s on issues for different target audiences, on a monthly basis
iii. Curate, set up and socialize a knowledge management repository including a filing system, differentiating between technical and internal information vs. external partners’ information, updated on a weekly basis
iv. Gather information for and draft monthly updates on UNICEF and partner’s work, customized to key internal audiences including: Global Management Team, Executive office, Country offices, etc.
v. Contribute to information needed for communication and fundraising tools developed by relevant teams by providing content and highlighting risks for different audiences, on a weekly basis
2. Any other duties or assignments as requested by the supervisor.
The payment will be on a monthly basis, based on number of days worked, on certification of the Hiring Manager.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Academic:
An advanced university degree in Brand Strategy, Design, Data or Information Management or related field is required.
Professional Experience:
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible relevant professional work experience in one or more of the following areas: communication, design, data, research or another related area
- An understanding or working knowledge of the UN or a similar organization/NGO is an added advantage
- Experience working in a multi-cultural environment and/or developing country context
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with digital communications platforms and tools
- Ability to build strong and sustainable relationships and capability to interact at all levels within the organization.
- Ability to multi-task in a high-pressure environment working across different time zones and with cross-cutting team dynamics
- Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy
Other Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience working on a public health issue
- Knowledge of the environment in which UNICEF and the UN system operate

Language Requirements:
Fluency in English is required. Additional UN languages will be considered an asset.

Remarks:
Applications that meet minimum requirements will be assessed by the following breakdown:
– 70% Technical Qualifications as outlined in TOR
- Academic qualification as above (20 points)
- Professional Experience as above (40 points)
- Knowledge of the environment UNICEF operates, emergency situations and access to medicines issues (10 points)
– 30% Financial Proposal
(Day rate, weighted against others, maximum 30 points)

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
