About MAG:

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the Lebanon Programme:

MAG has been operational in Lebanon since 2000, conducting impact assessment surveys, delivering Mine Risk Education and clearing landmines, cluster munitions and other unexploded ordnance. Lebanon has an extensive legacy of conflict, and MAG is addressing the contamination left behind across predominantly southern and north-eastern areas of the country. The crisis in neighbouring Syria and movement of populations into Lebanon has made this work only more vital, and MAG continues to support both Lebanese and Syrian communities. Since 2006, MAG Lebanon has cleared more than 17 million square meters of contaminated land and removed more than 35,000 dangerous weapons, benefitting over 1.6 million people.

About the role:

Our Technical Field Managers are the core of our work and actively manage and lead our teams of national staff to safely implement our life saving projects. They must be willing to lead from the front, responsible for the day-to-day management of our technical teams and being involved in all aspects of MAG’s lifesaving work, including working with internal and external stakeholders, administration, team cashbooks, procurement of equipment, reporting and planning. This particular role will involve acting as the lead TFM for all our arms management and destruction (AMD) activities in the programme. You will be responsible for conducting technical assessments, managing physical rehabilitations and/or physical constructions. You will also be responsible for providing ammunition stockpile training and drafting national SALW and PSSM Standards.

The TFM may also be required to take on the role of acting Technical Operations Manager (TOM) during periods of the TOM’s absence. The position will require the selected candidate to work independently on occasions. However the ability to work as a team and fit in with the rest of the Lebanon programme is paramount. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in MAG’s life-saving work on a day-to-day basis

About you:

Due to the nature of the project, the successful candidate will need a background in ammunition management, ideally gained from a military career and use in the humanitarian or commercial sectors managing similar projects. Any experience in Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) or Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) is advantageous. You must be willing to take on the challenges of working in the developing world, as part of a flexible and committed team, to save lives in communities which need it most. You will be required to work with internal and external stakeholders and the successful candidate must therefore be able to demonstrate tact, diplomacy and tenacity.

Fluent English language skills are essential, with French/Arabic language skills being an advantage.

Please note that as part of MAG’s commitment to safeguarding, this post is subject to background checks before an offer of employment is confirmed.
