Bringing a strong network of partner and donor relationships and understanding of donor trends, as Programme Funding Manager, you will play a vital role in reviewing and improving the quality of War Child’s institutional fundraising and work with country programmes to diversify the scope and scale of new donors and grants. You will be responsible for the identification and the management of strategic relationships (including institutional donors, the War Child network and collaborating partners), competitive positioning and innovative cross-sector partnerships. You will help position the organisation for contracts and grants directly with donors and indirectly through consortia. You will work closely with the Head of Programme Funding and Operations, country programmes, technical advisors, advocacy, and finance teams to research and analyse opportunities, monitor donor engagement plans. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills will be critical to this role. This role is also expected to identify and lead on large scale complex proposal processes that will often span multiple War Child countries and multiple sector.

Your role This is a new role at War Child reporting to the Head of Programme Operations and Funding at a time when War Child UK continues to grow and expand into new locations across our 5 country offices. Driving forward dynamic and proactive engagement strategies directly with donors and indirectly through consortia at country, regional and global level, the postholder will develop and support organisational positioning for contracts and grants. This role will also introduce innovative and agile funding approaches and models to enhance War Child UK’s competitiveness in a complex donor environment. The postholder will achieve this by working closely with and the Head of Programme Funding and Operations, country programmes, technical advisors, advocacy, and finance teams to research and analyse opportunities, enhance, and support donor engagement plans and drive forward engagement opportunities to maximise and secure funding. Your responsibilities • Maintain and provide an overview of the funding environment identifying key risks and opportunities • Develop a strong entrepreneurial and innovative approach to identifying, creating, and maximising funding opportunities for country and global level strategic priorities • Align funding strategies to relevant advocacy priorities • Proactively network and build relationships with strategic donors to pre-position War Child UK for accessing funds • Lead on dynamic and innovative funding strategies including new approaches and models • Analyse donor priorities and provide advice on strategic funding opportunities • Influence and negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to maximise donor relationships and funding opportunities • Provide hands on and remote support to country teams on donor engagement • Work closely with the Programme Quality team establishing a closer working interface between Programme Quality and Programme Funding to support high-quality programmatic concepts, proposal development and technical oversight • Lead the co-creation, coordination, and design of complex and challenging proposals for restricted funding opportunities, including multi country opportunities or large-scale consortium bids • Work closely with Programme Funding and Programme Operations Coordinators and country teams on the fundraising components of annual plans • Work closely with the Head of Policy & Advocacy and other members of the Senior Leadership and Management team to support institutional donor engagement efforts, including representing War Child UK at key donor events • Support the Head of Programme Operations and Funding to monitor income and expenditure targets through monthly/quarterly financial and management reports, ensuring adequate follow up. Collate management information for use in business reporting and to identify key risks and opportunities • Regular travel to War Child UK country offices to deliver on responsibilities listed above (up to 40%) • Provide recommendations for future organisational restricted funding capacity • Provide technical advice and support on programme development and fundraising to Programme Operations Coordinators and country teams Management and Coordination • Provide all aspects of line management ensuring the performance, professional development, and motivation of Programme Funding Coordinators • Developing and leading the Funding Co-ordinator Team as a sub team within the wider Operations and Funding Team including for example annual planning and work planning • Strategic engagement and networking with other key War Child UK teams and the wider War Child network, establishing appropriate coordination, information sharing and communication Page 3 of 5 These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list.
