Project Summary:
The South Sudan Monitoring and Evaluation Support Project (MESP) will conduct a baseline household survey to gather data for indicators included in the new USAID South Sudan Mission country strategy. The indicators are part of the country strategy performance management plan, which will serve as the Mission’s tool for effective management of results in order to achieve the best possible development outcomes that allow for evidence-based decision making, learning, and adaptation. The baseline household survey will occur in six counties of South Sudan – Akobo (Jonglei), Budi (Eastern Equatoria), Duk (Jonglei), Leer (Western Upper Nile), Pibor (Jonglei), and Uror (Jonglei) – between March and May 2021. MESP requires nine Language Consultants in Classical Arabic (1), Didinga (1), Dinka (1), Jie (1), Juba Arabic (1), Murle (1), Ngalam (1), Nuer (1), and Anyuek (1) for preparation of the household survey.

Position Summary:
The Language consultants will serve as translators for documents used in the data collection of the household survey. Translation responsibilities will also include serving as language subject-matter expert for any questions from MESP or the USAID South Sudan Mission. The consultancy is 10 working days in February.
Responsibilities:

Translate household survey questionnaire from English to designated language

The Classical Arabic translator will also translate the questionnaire administration manual from English

Serve as a language expert for any questions from MESP team or USAID South Sudan Mission
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field is required; Master’s degree in language or relevant field is preferred

Minimum of ten years of experience in the humanitarian or international development sectors

Experience with technical documents for household surveys

Experience with translation from English to one of the following nine languages: Classical Arabic, Didinga, Dinka, Jie, Juba Arabic, Murle, Ngalam, Nuer, and Ayuak is required
