Reporting to the CRC Honduras Program Manager, the Health Coordinator will ensure timely, cost-efficient, and relevant medical advice on training content and training methods as part of a new CRC bilateral delegation team in Honduras. The Health Coordinator will oversee the work of the local team Health Trainer and Health Training Coordinator as well as to advise and co-create a health in emergencies capacity strengthening program that will enable the Honduran Red Cross (HRC) to re-deploy basic mobile health services within Honduras.

As a Health Coordinator you will:

Capacity Program Development, Planning, and Implementation

  • Review CRC evaluations and lessons learned documents from past CRC Emergency Response Unit (ERU) health deployments with the view to adapt best handover practices for a one-year capacity strengthening program
  • Co-design with HRC counterparts and CRC bilateral delegation team, a Health in Emergencies Capacity Strengthening work plan
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer in areas of logistics and procurement (mentoring, workshops, virtual sessions), as needed
  • Coordinate with the other Red Cross partners implementing capacity strengthening programs in support of HRC
  • Support the development of a 3-5 year longer-term health program for CRC in Honduras
  • Make recommendations to CRC Program Manager for future proposals

Health in Emergencies Capacity Strengthening Project Management

  • Oversee the implementation of all health project training activities as per identified program operating principles and within established budget and timeframes
  • Maintain effective health specific program management tracking tools
  • Manage an on-going project timeline of health training activities, identify and continually assess contingency plans and alternative activity/budget options
  • Ensure a technical level of analysis, troubleshooting and recommendations on health training activities of CRC project
  • Identify gaps, areas for improvements or opportunities from a technical health perspective with the Project management team
  • Participate in the design and management of evaluation activities for CRC supported project activities
  • Promote and adhere to Movement policies, strategies, procedures, guidelines and quality standards, operational planning and budgeting for all project activities
  • Identify and implement opportunities to strengthen and improve project effectiveness and efficiency

Other Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support on health topics, both directly in subject matter expertise and/or via accessing additional resources/experts
  • Build collaborative and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Act as focal point for delegate health and safety support
  • Review allocated budgets, monitor the cost and take appropriate actions to complete projects within approved budgets
  • Foster teamwork and contribute to a healthy and safe working environment

We’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree with preference to medical, health management, public health or similar
  • Minimum five years field experience in a Health Programming/Management with at least two years field experience with a humanitarian organisation in an international environment
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing project development, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting, ideally for health-related projects and/or in complex environments
  • Experience in and knowledge of the Central American region a strong asset
  • Strong diplomacy skills with previous experience in representational roles and liaising with numerous stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, oral and written
