Main purpose of job:
This is an important role within the Embassy directly advising the Ambassador, Deputy Head of Mission, Head of the Political, Economic and Development Team and Mekong Development Counsellor. We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and motivated person to join our vibrant team. The officer will lead our climate change work and will require strong analytical and communication skills. This is a key role requiring the holder to bring knowledge and expertise in relation to Cambodian development.
The role would suit someone who has strong analytical skills, a deep knowledge of recent Cambodian history and can work confidently with a range of senior stakeholders in government, civil society and international institutions.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:
- Provide regular updates on a range of climate change developments including climate ambition, green finance, energy transition and efficiency and natural resources preservation and adaptation in Cambodia based on reporting and meetings with contacts.
- Provide in-depth analysis verbally and in writing on specific topical issues.
- Recommend interventions on climate change topics, both policy and programmatic. This will include feeding into policy development in both the UK and Cambodia.
- Lead engagement on regional and centrally managed programmes alongside other policy officers.
- Organise programme of meetings both in Phnom Penh and around the country for the Ambassador and DHM including producing briefs and minutes.
- Maintain a broad network of contacts.
- Support the wider embassy on events, occasional translation and visits.
- Take part in embassy wide events to create an inclusive supportive work environment.

- Expert in English (Required)

- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office

- Proven record of delivering results, including accuracy and attention to detail
- Flexibility to occasionally travel to other parts of Cambodia and the wider region, sometimes outside of normal work hours

Working patterns
Full time – Monday and Thursday 8:15-16:45 & Friday 8:15-13:15.
Based on the needs of the Embassy and approval from the jobholder’s line manager, there will be the option to work remotely for up to one day per week.
The Embassy has a smarter working policy and is committed to offering flexible working patterns balanced with the operational requirements of the role. In crisis/emergency situations you may need to work as required to support the Embassy response, sometimes on a shift pattern working which may result in unsociable hours and/or weekend working.
