The British Embassy in Lisbon is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic, security and consular interests overseas. We are now seeking a top-quality Driver to undertake a dynamic and varied role.
The successful candidate will work as part of the Corporate Services team’s driver pool, providing support to diplomats and Embassy staff, as well as taking responsibility for ensuring that the Embassy’s official vehicle fleet is properly maintained and serviced. The main purpose of this position is to provide reception, driving, and administrative support.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Driving duties (approx. 65% of role):
Driving Embassy staff and visitors on official journeys, this can include overnight visits out of base, Vehicle maintenance of Embassy Official Vehicles, daily check of tyre pressures, hydraulic fluid, oil, radiator, and battery level, Keeping the vehicle clean and service and serviceable, reporting any defects.
2. Reception duties (approx. 20% of role):
Deal with all enquiries in a professional and courteous manner, in person, on the telephone or via e-mail (e.g.: answering telephones, transferring calls, attending to the public and checking in visitors, liaison with internal customers on conference room bookings, arranging transport or taxi bookings, liaison with security guards on visitor arrivals.);
3. Provide general administrative support (approx. 15% of role):
– Contingency room management including inventory and necessary purchases;
– First aid and AED management of equipment.
– Assisting departments with set-up for events in conference rooms or Residence, including set-up of IT equipment and Coffee breaks
4. Deliver excellent customer service, at all times;
5. Office post runs and management of post contract.

- Fluent English and Portuguese, written and spoken (min C1 level of CEFR*);
- Extensive driving experience and a clean record;
- Ability to work with contacts and colleagues at all levels or the organization;
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail;

- Good Microsoft Office skills and general basic IT skills;

This is a fixed-term with possibility of renewal, full-time contract (35 hours net per week) subject to 30 days probation period.
The British Embassy in Lisbon aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role of € 17,224.18 gross annual salary paid in fourteen instalments; plus a monthly meal allowance of €193.60. This salary is payable if the successful candidate is subject to individual income tax (IRS) in Portugal on the employment income in question. If the successful candidate is not subject to individual income tax (IRS) on their employment income in Portugal, and/or is not taxable elsewhere on such income, he / she will receive the above salary minus a reference amount approximate to the level of Portuguese tax that would be applicable if the income were subject to tax locally. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.
All staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Portugal are subject to local Portuguese employment law as well as internal regulations in force at any given time.
The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Portugal in order to apply.

The Embassy will not consider applications from existing staff who have not successfully completed their probation period or, in the case of staff on temporary contract who have not yet completed two thirds of their contract.
