Main purpose of job:
The UK will be hosting COP26 in partnership with Italy on 1-12 November 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland. Tackling climate change, including through COP26, is a priority of the UK government. The British Embassy in Manila is working closely with a broad range of partners across the country and the region to strengthen international collaboration on the major practical challenges of emissions reduction, resilience and finance, to accelerate change in the global economy. Under the COP26 Presidency, the UK has been launching campaigns on energy transition, adaptation and resilience, nature-based solutions, transport, energy efficiency and finance.
The Climate Change and Environment Intern will serve as a key member of the Embassy’s Climate Change and Environment (CCE) team, providing much needed support in delivering COP26 objectives and campaigns in the Philippines. S/he will support the Climate Change and Energy Attaché and the Climate Change and Environment Officer in the coordination and execution of COP26 activities and wider work on climate change, energy and environment in the Philippines as well as in Palau.
As an intern, he/she has the opportunity to work with other colleagues in the Policy, Programmes and Communications Section, International Trade Section, as well as London and region-based counterparts including the Southeast Asia Climate Change and Energy Attaché network.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
The jobholder’s role will have the following core responsibilities. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual that has strong interest in environmental issues and digital media.
- Assist in the delivery of climate change and environment-related events, especially COP26, through logistical coordination, preparation of presentation materials, administrative tasks for high level meetings, ministerial visits, events and workshops for the Philippines and Palau
- Support the CCE team in the implementation of the COP26 work plan including communications plan
- Work with the CCE team to deliver climate change and environment digital content on Embassy platforms
- Support in liasing with partners and working level contacts in the Philippine government (executive and legislative both at the national and local levels), development partners, and representatives of businesses, and civil society organisations, including those for Palau, as deemed necessary.
- Organisational abilities
- Competence on digital platforms
- Knowledge in photography, video production, graphic design and video editing
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience organising events/meetings
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
- Basic skills and knowledge of Adobe software (Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere)
- Experience of working with and through networks of representatives from government, the private sector, media and international institutions.

The role being advertised is a full time internship for five (5) months, with a stipend of PhP10,500 per month.
No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. You must have work authorisation for the Philippines in order to apply.
