Main Purpose of Job:
This role is with the UK Department of Health and Social Care-funded, UK Health Security Agency-implemented, International Health Regulations Strengthening project. The project works in partnership with relevant public health stakeholders across Africa and Asia in order to better prevent, detect and respond to public health emergencies.
The Indo-Pacific team works primarily through ASEAN in order to strengthen regional health security. The team is split across Jakarta and Bangkok. The jobholder will provide support to the Higher Project Officer to ensure the project management and delivery of identified outputs and activities. This role plays a crucial part in supporting the various activities within the workplan agreed with partner organisations, ensuring delivery in alignment with timeline, within scope and resource allocation.

This post will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia with travel. The team hosts events across ASEAN Member States and has a presence in Bangkok, Thailand, so the project officer may be required to cover events and meetings in other locations.
What the Jobholder will be Expected to Achieve:
- Project Management (50%): Drawing on project management skills, the jobholder will help to make sure that the project runs smoothly and in a timely fashion according to workplan and budget. These include liaising with our logistics supplier or equivalent to arrange travel, organise venues, ensure that payments are processed accurately, manage the project’s finance tools management and other relevant tasks. The jobholder will work with the higher project officer to manage the regional programme, including being adaptable and responsive to stakeholder needs and requests, supporting the management of workshops on the day.
- Stakeholder Management (20%): The jobholder will liaise with regional and national government institutions and other partner organisations to help implement activities according to the workplan. The jobholder will support the Regional Lead and other technical experts in engagements with senior leaders and stakeholders. The jobholder will use their interpersonal skills to maintain a variety of strategic engagements and respond in a timely manner to queries.
- Monitoring, Reporting and Evaluation (20%): The jobholder will manage reporting of the project’s regional activities according to the rhythm of reporting required, and respond to commissions from the organisation and funder. The jobholder will be asked to play a key role in monitoring and evaluation, including administration of surveys, compiling data and working with the regional lead to take a strategic approach on monitoring and evaluation.
- Visits and High-Level Meetings (5%): The jobholder will support visits and engagements between senior staff and stakeholders in the region. The jobholder will help shape and deliver activities, visits, and associated communications to relevant audience.
- Communications (5%): The jobholder will support Higher Project Officer on internal and external comms, working closely with relevant teams across UKHSA, the UK Government and external partners.

The British Embassy Jakarta offers a competitive remuneration package including:

Working Patterns:
Normal working hours are 39.5 (gross) per week: 07:30hrs to 16:00hrs from Monday to Thursday and 07:30hrs to 13:00hrs. At present, all staff working in the FCDO, Jakarta are expected to attend the office for three days per week, subject to change. Subject to operational demands and line manager approval, the team operates a ‘core hours’ policy of 09:00 to 15:00 with individual flexibility around that and two days of work from home per week on request.
All Country Based Staff are allowed to work from home up to two days per week. The nature of this job means further flexibility may be possible. We welcome job share applications.

All candidates must be legally able to work and reside in Indonesia with the correct visa/work permit status or demonstrate eligibility to obtain the relevant permit. Any costs related to obtaining or renewing permits and visas are the responsibility of the successful applicant.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy Jakarta is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local employment law. In relation to this, the successful candidate will need to arrange for his/her own Police Certificate. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.

Learning and Development Opportunities:
Learning and development opportunities are available within UKHSA and FCDO. The jobholder will also have exposure to and opportunities to participate in health security meetings and events, learning through experience about health security and with the potential to develop their own skills in public health and project management.
