Who we are?
The British Embassy Paris is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas, and is now looking to recruit a Community Liaison Officer (CLO).
The role of Community Liaison Officer (CLO) is key for the UK Government’s France Network and makes a real difference to the experience of UK-based officers and their families while they are based in France.
Main purpose of the job:
To ensure officers and families are supported, informed and guided from pre-arrival and onboarding with continuing support throughout the posting. Advice and support on processes including spouse/partner employment issues, education, childcare, local medical providers and other processes.
Roles and responsibilities:
The job includes a significant welfare element, supporting individuals, their families and the wider France Network community. The CLO acts as a staff counsellor and a listening and sympathetic ear. This means that they are often the first person to whom people reach out for advice or a confidential conversation, whether they are UK-based staff or spouses or country-based staff. The CLO may not be able to solve an issue, but they can point colleagues to the right place to get advice and support.
The CLO helps organise community events, working with the team at the Ambassador’s Residence. These include picnics, the annual children’s Christmas Party and other get-togethers – all of which are very popular and bring staff and families together.
There is an important element to the job around accommodation. The CLO supports officers and families posted to France on their housing, working closely with our facilities management contractor (JLL) and the France Network Estates Team. The CLO needs to be an active and engaged member of the monthly Post Housing Committee, providing input and updates to the accommodation policy as necessary.
The CLO provides advice on education for incoming families, ensuring that the Network’s list of schools is up-to-date and visiting new schools and nurseries and adding them to the list as needed.
In addition, the CLO: makes sure that the France Network Post Report and the Spouse/Partner employment report are up to date; completes a twice yearly Cost of Living Allowance return; is a member of the crisis committee, where they play a welfare role; and is a member of the wellbeing committee.
