The British Embassy in Skopje, North Macedonia is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Government to Government Partnership Officer to lead work (especially from the Department for Business Trade (DBT) on the UK/North Macedonia Government to Government Partnership and UK Export Finance funding that promotes growth and prosperity in North Macedonia, bilateral trade, and encourages FDI between the UK and North Macedonia.
The jobholder will be responsible for combining strategic level management with operational delivery of the pipeline projects. This includes management of a small budget and responsibility for business planning.
The jobholder will develop and maintain a network of relations with key business and institutional stakeholders, in North Macedonia and in the UK.
The role will require occasional travel across the region and to the UK.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Deliver the UK/North Macedonia Government to Government Partnership (G2G) and support DBT’s annual Business Plan targets;
- Development, maintenance and utilisation of a network of key contacts in North Macedonia and as needed the Western Balkans and London in order to deliver the strategic objectives of the pipeline of projects in the G2G;
- Regular interaction with BE Skopje’s political and economic team to ensure coordination across the Embassy on areas of policy overlap, joint visits and events;
- Representation of DBT Skopje to outside stakeholders, including occasional advice to British companies in conjunction with the British Business Association;
- Strategic management including business planning and budgeting;
- Providing advice to HMA, DHM and other senior interlocutors on matters requiring their attention relating to trade, investment and the G2G;
- Representation of the British Embassy Skopje and DBT where appropriate, attending conferences, preparing speeches and interviews relating to trade between the UK and North Macedonia, especially the G2G;
- The jobholder will also contribute to the overall strategic objectives of the Embassy in Skopje;
- Lead and coordinate stakeholder engagement, including maintaining guest lists, sending out invitations, scoping and providing suggestions for venues, travel, and facilities;
- Support evaluation of events and collate learning to understand how we can improve delivery.

Our ideal candidate shows:
- Full professional proficiency in English written and spoken C1 level for the CEFR framework*;
- Strong track record of business development/sales experience, proven market awareness of the national and regional business environment;
- At least 5 years of commercial experience;
- A record of delivering commercial outcomes and commercial and economic awareness;
- An innovative attitude especially towards customer service and performance management;
- Excellent communication skills, with an ability to report with clarity on complex issues;
- Proven ability to develop relationships with customers and stakeholders;
- Experience in government relations and or public sector;
- Ability to work in a diverse and cross-cultural environment;
- Strong IT skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Office and the Internet;
- Ability to prioritise workload where required, working with minimal supervision;
- College / University level degree in a relevant area or equivalent experience.

This is for a full-time employment, on a fixed term basis for one-year with a view for extension.
The British Embassy has an active learning and development culture and there will be opportunities for informal training and shadowing.
The expected start date is April 1st, 2026 however the job holder should be available to start as soon as possible.

Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Republic of North Macedonia and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.

Learning and development opportunities: The successful candidate will have the opportunity to undertake training, including possibility to shadow teams in London and the region. The scope for further L&D is wide, and it will be up to the incumbent, in consultation with the line manager, to identify opportunities. These might include attendance at regional conferences, formal in-house and external training, coaching, mentoring and job shadowing.
