The UK is a global leader in science, technology and innovation, and international collaboration is essential to maintaining this excellence. The jobholder will be based in the British Embassy Kyiv supporting the wider work of the Political, Economic, and Communications Section and Programme Teams, ensuring delivery contributes to the Ukraine Country Business Plan owned by His Majesty’s Ambassador in Kyiv. The jobholder will report directly to the British Embassy Kyiv’s Head of Economics Team, who leads on UK interests across the Ukrainian economy (including the tech sector). The role will cover the research and wider innovation space, including in AI and digitisation, identifying areas for UK-UA technical cooperation.
Roles and responsibilities:
• Monitor and report on key developments in the Ukrainian science, technology and innovation sectors relevant to STN priority areas (critical technologies, health, climate and how ST&I can support Ukraine recovery) to inform UK international engagement and wider understanding.
• Respond to requests from UK ST&I stakeholders for information on the local Ukrainian system.
• Build and manage a network of contacts in government, research organisations and universities in the UK and Ukraine to support STN and Embassy objectives.
• Support British Embassy Kyiv teams to integrate science, technology and innovation priorities into policy and programme work. Support opportunities for the British Ambassador to Ukraine and wider Embassy representatives to engage on science and innovation with Ukraine stakeholders.
• Design and deliver an STN delivery plan, that will include a programme of projects, visits, events and other activities to facilitate ST&I collaboration and partnership-building between the UK and Ukraine – enhancing the visibility of the UK’s science excellence, technology and innovation capability and building understanding of how this can be harnessed to support Ukraine’s recovery.
