Main purpose of job:

- New Delhi Decision Making Centre considers visit applications from UK visa customers submitting applications from India and China.
- New Delhi is the only Decision-Making Centre in the region, and we handle approximately 600,000 applications a year. This region presents a real mix in complexity of applications received, and as a global operation New Delhi also helps other Decision-Making Centres assess all nationalities and other visa categories.
- The British High Commission requires Entry Clearance Officers (ECO) to help process the increase in visa demand. As an ECO, you will play an important role in ensuring that the immigration regulations are correctly and fairly applied to all applications for a UK visa so that only those who qualify are able to enter the UK.
- Entry Clearance Officers are expected to analyse information to make decisions which can sometimes be complex to ensure that a modern, efficient and courteous service is delivered within agreed standards.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:
- These Entry Clearance Officer roles are to join a specific cadre of CBS Decision Makers within UKVI. The main purpose of the Entry Clearance Officer role is to make decisions on applications for a United Kingdom visa.
- These roles are different from other CBS decision maker roles as they are required to be able to assess the full range of visa applications processed by the New Delhi Decision Making Centre and may be required to access classified information, hence the eligibility requirement to hold a UK, EU or 5CC nationality passport.
- ECOs make visa decisions based upon the UK’s Immigration Rules and play a key role in delivering a visa service that promotes customer service excellence, welcomes legitimate travellers, supports economic growth and keeps the UK safe and secure.
- As an ECO you will ensure that the Immigration Rules are correctly and fairly applied to all visa applicants to ensure that only those who qualify are able to enter the UK.
- ECOs are required analyse complex information and exercise skilled judgment within a rules-based environment. You will be working in a fast paced, operational environment with an expectation to deliver against agreed operational targets and decision quality standards. ECOs need to be articulate on paper and in person; and have strong IT skills.
- This is an Entry Clearance Officer role as you will be assessing visa applications specific to your security clearance. You may also be expected to assist with other application categories and / or support assessing from other DMCs as and when required.”

For British High Commission candidates, the Country Based Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.
For other than BHC Candidates, salary will be all-inclusive of INR 77,619 per month together with INR 129,605 Skills Allowance and Additional Allowance of 18% in lieu of Provident Fund and Special Allowance.
Additionally, the BHC offers a great benefits package that includes annual domiciliary medical cover, plus a Group Hospitalisation Scheme with INR 500,000 floater cover for your immediate family which includes self, spouse/partner and children up to an age of 23 years and irrespective of age, only if with, physical or mental disability.
The following amounts may be deduced from your pay each month:
- Notional tax at a flat rate of 20% of gross salary will be deducted by the BHC if you are not liable to pay local tax. This applies to all spouses and partners of UK-based officers posted to India.
- Staff who are not spouses or dependants of UK-based officers are liable to pay local tax. In these circumstances tax is not deducted at source and staff must make their own arrangements to pay tax in accordance with Indian tax regulations.
No relocation or any other related costs or assistance will be provided. FCDO does not pay for any travelling, accommodation & relocation expenses incurred and/or accept any financial risk, including cancellation or reschedule costs
Please note – BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g., some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
