Main purpose of job:
To lead on business planning, and manage high level visits and wider policy work for the British High Commission in Wellington
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:
At a busy time for the UK in NZ network, the jobholder will be responsible for coordinating a number of strategically important exercises, including:
- Leading on the UK in NZ Country Business Plan, working to senior management and across all teams in Wellington and Auckland to set the network’s strategic direction for the next three years.
- Leading elements of high level Ministerial and Military visits to New Zealand. This will include liaising with policy leads and visit owners to maximise policy-related outcomes and deliverables from the visits, arranging engagements within the programme and other work as needed.
- Working with the Foreign and Security Policy team and Political Team to deliver priority goals and outcomes.
- Leading on specific communications issues (e.g. drafting speeches and other comms products) in collaboration with the comms team.
- Supporting implementation of the recommendations of a recent audit of the UK in NZ network, and related documentation.
Given the short length of the contract, familiarity with or experience of working for the UK government’s overseas diplomatic network, or the UK in NZ network, would be essential

Note: This is a fixed-term temporary role for 2 months.

Working patterns:
The successful applicant would be expected to work full-time for the duration of the contract from Monday – Friday, 08:45 – 17:00 plus overtime / (taken as TOIL).
Other Information:
Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment and security checks. Staff who are locally recruited by the British High Commission are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to New Zealand local employment law.
