Main purpose of job:
Consular assistance is a core priority for the UK Government, and issuing Emergency Travel Documents (ETDs) is a major part of how we support British nationals overseas. The Emergency Travel Document Centre operates as a global hub across Singapore, Madrid and Mexico, offering near‑round‑the‑clock support across time zones for people who need to travel urgently but cannot use their full‑validity passport.
We are recruiting one full‑time intern from mid‑April / early May to September to support the Singapore Centre during our busiest summer season. You will help process ETD applications for individuals whose passports are lost, stolen, damaged or expired, working mainly with online applicants but occasionally assisting people in person.
This is fast‑paced, meaningful work with real impact. Many applicants are stressed or vulnerable, and your role is to assess information quickly, make sound judgments, and help them move forward safely. The job is operational and target‑driven, so you should be comfortable with routine tasks, accuracy, and working at pace.
Where capacity allows, you’ll also be encouraged to spend time with teams across the British High Commission to gain a broader understanding of how a diplomatic mission operates.
We welcome students from any academic background, especially those with an interest in politics, international relations or similar fields. If you’re looking for a role that directly supports others and gives you hands‑on insight into the work of an embassy, we’d love to hear from you.
