Position Overview
This seasonal position supports riparian and stream restoration planning through field-based Proper Functioning Condition (PFC) assessments. The technician will assist with evaluating stream and floodplain function to inform future restoration actions, prioritization, and adaptive management.
The role is designed for a student interested in river restoration, watershed resilience, fisheries habitat, and applied conservation, and provides hands-on experience in field methods commonly used to guide restoration design and monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
– Assist with field-based riparian and stream function assessments used to inform restoration planning
– Support collection of photopoints, field observations, and qualitative indicators related to hydrology, vegetation, and geomorphology
– Assist with reach reconnaissance and identification of restoration opportunities (e.g., floodplain connectivity, riparian recovery, bank stability)
– Help organize field data and contribute to post-field restoration summaries
– Work outdoors in variable weather, rough terrain, and remote settings for extended periods
Must-Have Requirements
– Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in natural resources, environmental science, ecology, hydrology, fisheries, or a related field
– Ability to work safely and productively in field settings, including walking long distances along streams and floodplains
– Foundational interest in stream or riparian restoration demonstrated through coursework, field experience, or personal interest
Additional Requirements (Per Family)
– Demonstrated passion for fly fishing
– A strong conservation ethic and interest in healthy rivers
– A desire to give back to their community through hands-on conservation work
Preferred (Not Required)
– Coursework or experience in stream restoration, riparian ecology, geomorphology, or fisheries habitat
– Experience with field data collection, GPS units, or photo documentation
– Familiarity with western river systems or public lands
– Waders and/or wading boots
