Main Purpose of Job
The British Embassy in Dakar is looking for a dynamic, creative and proactive individual to join our team. We are seeking someone who is passionate about communications, connected to the latest trends on social media and interested in working in an international environment.
The successful candidate will work on developing and implementing projects and strategic plans across a wide range of initiatives. Amongst the main responsibilities of this role are: creating and developing social media content, news monitoring and reporting, and supporting events, visits and diplomatic activities throughout the post. The jobholder will have a large amount of autonomy for the day-to-day running of embassy communications across our platforms.
Expect to get stuck in, contribute ideas and prepare to learn a lot through hands-on experience. This is a unique chance to be engaged in an international environment, take ownership of a wide range of projects and learn how the British do diplomacy. Alongside delivering the communications activities, you will learn and work with British diplomats, including the Ambassador.
Main Duties:
This position will lead on comms around events, high-level visits/missions, internal comms and issues including prosperity, science and soft power (Chevening). There will be a particular focus on climate ahead of the COP26 summit next year.
Roles and responsibilities:

Provide support on special projects, accompanying the development and lead on the implementation of strategic comms plans.

Lead on communications for events, official visits and comms initiatives, including photo and digital coverage and development of a diverse set of comms materials.

Collaborate in engagement with the media, by writing press releases and reports, preparing mailing lists and contacting journalists.

Build a strong network of journalists and media outlets.

Lead the work of digital communication, by creating specific digital communications plans, implementing them and monitoring impacts.

Lead on administrative tasks, including contact with suppliers, documents management and data base update.

Monitor discussions on global issues in the media and elaborate daily clippings for the organisation´s network.

Collaborate with teams across the embassy to communicate of a range of policy areas.

Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in both English and French

Excellent interpersonal skills

Experience in supporting marketing/communications and event organisation

Experience in designing and creating communications and promotional materials
-
Ability to work to tight deadlines and multi-task effectively

Good team-working skills and the ability to develop productive relationships with other teams around the network

Relevant qualification and/or relevant experience

Familiarity with UK culture

Experience in designing visuals for social media and producing videos
