You will play a key role working at the heart of the Consulate, which gives the jobholder an excellent overview of British engagement across Nordrhein-Westfalen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Saarland and Hessen. There will be opportunities to be involved in high profile work, and you will be working closely with all teams in the Consulate, as well as with colleagues from across the wider Network in both Berlin and Munich. fluency in German and English is essential. To support the Consulate’s positive working environment, the successful candidate will be encouraged to play an active role in the Consulate’s corporate life and contribute to the wider objectives of the Germany network. Roles and responsibilities:

1. Administrative Support (50%): You will manage the Consul General’s diary, including scheduling of all internal and external meetings and appointments. You will manage English and German written correspondence and telephone enquiries and provide administrative support on behalf of the Consul General, including arranging team meetings and video conferences. You will also provide administrative support to the team, including drafting and circulating meeting agendas and recording minutes, where needed. 2. Programme & Project Work (20%): You will support the Consul General and teams on special projects (for example around the upcoming 80th Anniversary of NRW), some of which will be led by the jobholder. You will formulate ideas for a deliver initiatives, and draw on project management skills to make sure all programmes and projects runs smoothly, to time and budget. 3. Visits & High Level Meetings (15%): You will help organise visit programmes and transport arrangements for the Consul General in Germany and in the UK, and support visits by VIP and senior officials. Where needed, you will coordinate the preparation of briefing for Consul General’s external meetings and speaking engagements, ensuring smooth coordination with other team members and Network colleagues. 4. Comms (15%): Support the planning and delivery of local comms and social media activity, working closely with the Germany Network comms team. |

This is a full time (37,5 hours a week), fixed-term 2 year contract with the possibility of a permanent contract subject to performance and funding. Salary €52,704 – rising to a maximum of approx. €59,202 – gross per annum after a qualifying period in addition to performance related pay (salary is not negotiable). Candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate General are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local German employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country.
