Who are we?
The British Embassy in Luxembourg is recruiting a self-driven, creative and delivery-focused individual (with public diplomacy and/or communications experience) to deliver the Embassy’s public diplomacy work. The British Embassy in Luxembourg is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are now looking for a Public Diplomacy Officer to play a central role in supporting the Embassy’s communications, political and public diplomacy objectives. Working directly with the Ambassador and colleagues across the mission, the role combines political reporting and analysis with strategic communications, stakeholder engagement and the delivery of high-profile public diplomacy and events.
Main purpose of job:
Press and Political: Preparing daily press summaries and regular political summaries, and reporting.
Event and visit management: Designing and supporting Embassy events as well as senior UK inward visits.
Corporate support: Embassy corporate role, including Health & Safety Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a small, high-performing Embassy team. The job would suit a motivated and dynamic individual with a strong interest in international relations and communications, who has an understanding of Luxembourg’s political scene.
Why should you apply?
The British Embassy Luxembourg is a small and fun team to work with. We offer developmental training to help job holders get the most out of their role and may offer flexible working arrangements where they do not impact on delivering core tasks.
Roles and responsibilities:

Public diplomacy
- Support the development and delivery of the Embassy’s public diplomacy programme, including events, campaigns and high-level visits, in Luxembourg and across the wider network
- Design, coordinate and deliver public engagement initiatives that support UK priorities, working with a broad range of stakeholders including youth, civil society, business, academia and cultural partners
- Build and maintain networks that strengthen the UK’s profile and relationships in Luxembourg, including the development and management of targeted engagement platforms and communities where relevant.
Communications and press
- Support the planning and delivery of communications activity for the Embassy, including for events, visits and engagements
- Identify and develop communications and press opportunities that advance UK policy and public diplomacy objectives, including media engagement, interviews and digital outreach
- Draft communications content for social and digital media, press lines, briefing materials and stakeholder engagement
- Monitor the local media and information environment to identify opportunities, risks and emerging issues, and contribute to preparedness for crisis communications, including supporting communications activity during incidents or crises.
Political reporting and analysis

- Assist with briefing for senior UK visits and meetings, including background notes and reporting outcomes.
Project and programme support
- Provide programme and project management support across the political, public diplomacy and communications portfolios, including planning, coordination, delivery and follow-up
- Support the administration of projects and programmes, including tracking timelines, budgets, outputs and lessons learned.
Corporate support
- As with all Embassy staff, the jobholder will assume a corporate role to help ensure the smooth running of Embassy functions. As health and safety officer, they will ensure the Embassy’s health & safety management and intervention systems are up to date. They may be required to take on further roles in line with business need. The nature of the job will require an amount of time attending external meetings and events in Luxembourg or abroad, as well as supporting Embassy events and high-level visits, all of which may occur outside regular office hours.
