Overview
The Government of Botswana has prioritised value chain development as a strategic response to private sector-led, economic diversification as articulated in National Development Plan 12 and the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme. This approach aims to promote beneficiation and local value addition, reduce import dependence, improve competitiveness, and integrate MSMEs into higher-value segments of priority sectors such as agriculture, agro-processing, tourism, manufacturing, and green industries. Value chain development is also critical for positioning Botswana to take advantage of regional and continental market opportunities under SADC, SACU and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
