The British Embassy Amman has a vacancy for People Officer, job grade Administrative Officer (AO) on a fixed term contract for two years.

As People Officer, you will play a key role in delivering highquality HR services to Country Based Staff (CBS) and supporting line managers across the Embassy. You will work closely with the Corporate Service Manager – Platform Services, the HR Regional Hub in Abu Dhabi, and the People & Welfare Manager to ensure effective HR operations, compliance, engagement, and staff wellbeing.
Workforce Planning & HR Data:
- Develop and maintain HR metrics and analytics using open sources or internal systems.
- Support performance management administration, including monitoring boards, collecting scores, and preparing reports.
- Ensure accurate and updated records on HERA and other systems, including annual leave, performance goals, and personal data.
- Maintain digital HR files and minimise paper records.
- Act as L&D representative, track mandatory training, and support CPD monitoring.
- Produce regular HR communications to staff and managers.
HR Advisory & Staff Support:
- Provide second line HR support for CBS (HR Hub is first line).
- Answer more complex HR queries involving Jordanian Labour Law, escalating to Legal Adviser or DCS as appropriate.
- Support staff and line managers on HR processes, including leave, absence, entitlements, and changes to terms.
HR Administration (Onboarding to Exit):
- Coordinate onboarding, induction, offboarding, contract changes, retirements, and allowances.
- Liaise regularly with HR Hub to ensure smooth processing of all people related tasks.
- Maintain the social security database and support updates to medical insurance.
Payroll & Compliance:
- Track changes affecting pay and provide timely updates to Finance.
- Assist in resolving payroll queries and ensure accuracy of monthly submissions.
- Monitor changes in Jordanian Labour Law and update TACOs appendices as required.
- Ensure all CBS complete mandatory learning and induction requirements.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future and this would be at the discretion of the line manager/ senior management and agreed with the jobholder. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

- Previous experience in a relevant HR orientated role ideally for at least two (2) years.
- fluency in English and Arabic – Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both orally and in written communication. Exceptional writing and presentation skills.
- Self-starter, comfortable with delivery and minimal support. Able to set own workload on day-to-day operational level to meet key deliverables and goals.

Working hours and remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of JOD 1,361 per month based on 37 hours per week.
Salary will be paid in gross, and you are expected to comply with your tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the local authorities. If exceptionally you are not liable to pay Jordanian tax, you will receive a net salary, which is minus the deduction of an equivalent level of local tax. Further information on this will be provided at interview if necessary.
This role is for a full-time employment on a fixed term contract for two (2) years. The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-days probationary period. The appointment is subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearances. The selected candidate must have the right to live and work in Jordan.
Normal working hours at the Embassy are Sundays to Wednesdays from 08:00-15:30 and Thursdays from 08:00-15:00. Hours of work vary for this role according to operational requirements in agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies. The jobholder should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will also be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evenings/ weekends).
