Who are we:
The British Embassy in Podgorica, Montenegro is part of a world-wide network which represents British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are now looking to recruit a full-time Security Guard to join our team. The role is primarily based at the Ambassador’s Residence, ensuring a safe and secure environment, with occasional duties at the Embassy. When working at the Embassy, the postholder will act as one of the first points of contact for visitors and may occasionally provide driving support.
What will you do?
You will play an important role in maintaining the safety and security of the Ambassador’s Residence and supporting Embassy operations when required.
Your duties will include:
- Monitoring CCTV systems and carrying out regular patrols and physical checks of the Residence grounds;
- Supervising vehicle and pedestrian access gates to the compound, including recording details of visitors and vehicles;
- Supervising visitors entering the Residence where required;
- Search of bags and person (where needed) and issuing all relevant passes;
- Providing physical security during events at the Residence and, occasionally, at the Embassy or outside these premises;
- Carrying out regular tests of fire, incident and bomb alarms and responding appropriately to any incidents (take part in firefighting and first aid situations with exact duties delegated;
- Maintaining records of all keys and entry access cards, and ensuring access systems are functioning correctly;
- Supporting the Embassy Security Team when needed.
When working at the Embassy, you will also:
- Act in a polite and professional manner as a first point of contact for visitors;
- Handle enquiries in person or by phone and pass information to the relevant Embassy staff;
- Scanning all incoming mail and recording the details before passing it further;
- Occasionally drive Embassy vehicles to transport staff or visitors and support deliveries when required.

Our ideal candidate shows:
- Proficiency in English and Montenegrin, both written and spoken, minimum of C1 level according to the CEFR framework*, or equivalent;
- Previous experience in a customer‑facing role;
- Willingness and ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays;
- A full, valid Category B driving licence;
- Good working knowledge of Podgorica and the surrounding area, with experience navigating locally for work or daily activities;
- Basic IT skills, including the ability to use standard computer systems for records or communication;
- Ability to work well as part of a team and respond flexibly to changing circumstances;
- A reliable and proactive approach, with the ability to manage your own time and workload effectively.

This is a full-time permanent contract based on 40 working hours per week. The role is shift-based and involves working 12-hour shifts (with rest days in between), in line with operational requirements. Further details of the shift pattern will be provided to shortlisted candidates at interview stage.
The successful appointment is subject to confirmation of a background check, security clearance and medical clearance.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Podgorica are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Montenegro employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Montenegro and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
