Who are we?
The British Embassy in Dublin is part of a global network representing the UK’s political, economic and consular interests overseas, and we are now recruiting for a Senior Trade Advisor to join our DBT team. The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) at the British Embassy in Dublin works to strengthen trade between the UK and Ireland, supporting UK companies to export, grow and succeed in the Irish market. We work closely with businesses, government partners and colleagues across the UK and our global network, and we are a collaborative and friendly team that values initiative, fresh ideas and practical solutions.
Main purpose of the role:
Reporting to the Head of Trade, the Senior Trade Advisor will deliver ambitious sector‑focused export plans, lead targeted trade campaigns, analyse market opportunities and convert these into tangible outcomes through effective buyer and account management.
What will you do?
- Design and deliver sectoral trade campaigns aligned with the UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy.
- Identify, develop and manage relationships with key buyers in Ireland to promote UK sourcing.
- Lead on inward missions and export programmes, including events, presentations and one‑to‑one company support.
- Collaborate with DBT colleagues in the UK and internationally to deliver joined‑up export support.
- Produce high‑quality market analysis, sector briefings and company‑specific reports.
- Lead account management for high‑value UK companies exporting to or expanding in Ireland.
- Support UK companies setting up in Ireland by providing expert advice, referrals and aftercare.
- Track performance against KPIs and contribute to team objectives.
- Contribute to wider Embassy work, including corporate activities, official visits and events.

Our ideal candidate shows:
- fluency in both oral and written English (minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
- At least three years’ experience in business development and/or account management, ideally in an international or trade‑related context;
- Proven experience building and managing relationships with a range of stakeholders, including businesses and public sector partners;
- Strong understanding of the UK and Irish economic landscape, with the ability to identify trade opportunities and challenges;
- Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, concise briefings and reports;
- Strong organisational skills, including experience leading or contributing to projects, campaigns, events or trade activities;
- Confident communicator, with experience presenting information clearly to a variety of audiences;
- A proactive, self‑starting approach, with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to team objectives.

The successful candidate will be subject to a six-month probationary period and will be employed on a fixed-term contract basis for 23 months with the possibility of renewal. The appointment is subject to satisfactory reference and security checks.
All L&D required on FCDO/UK government standards and systems will be provided. The Embassy is committed to a strong Learning and Development culture, and provides opportunities for staff to invest in their personal and professional development. The Comms digital network in particular has a strong L&D offering with frequent opportunities to upskill.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Ireland are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Irish employment law.

Working pattern: We promote family-friendly flexible working opportunities, where operational and security needs allow. Working hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:00 with staff expected to work in the embassy 3 days each week. Flexible working patterns may be subject to change in the future either by the FCDO or the Ambassador. Time spent networking or meeting stakeholders counts towards in office working.
