Main purpose of job:
The post advertised is for a Trade and Investment Manager for Clean Growth based at the British Embassy in Manila, working primarily on trade promotion under the infrastructure team. The role will focus on the Clean Growth portfolio, particularly renewable energy and environmental sectors. Identifying and addressing sector relevant market issues will be part of the responsibilities. Sector responsibilities may evolve and change over time.
The role reports directly to the Senior Trade Manager leading the infrastructure sector. The job holder will also provide support to the Country Director on inward investment from the Philippines to the UK, and to the Deputy Country Director on Critical Minerals under Environment.
The role will provide support to UK companies who are already exporting to the Philippines, as well as draw in new exporters for market opportunities. The post holder is expected to possess project management skills to effectively plan and execute innovative trade promotion activities for identified relevant sectors. The post holder will also be required to attend official functions outside of office hours, and undertake occasional travel (international and domestic).
The successful candidate will be joining a high-performing team and will engage with a diverse range of UK businesses and sector stakeholders in the public and private sector – locally, regionally and back in the UK. The post holder will deliver DBT initiatives in market and collaborate with regional colleagues part of APAC energy team.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:
- Deliver an ambitious set of annual trade targets in clean growth sectors, including renewable energy, and environment.
- Develop and effectively account manage a strong network of relevant public and private sector stakeholders to effectively deliver trade support to UK companies pursuing project opportunities in market.
- Conceptualise a strategy for sector/s engagement and implement activities with the goal of generating trade opportunities, building relationships, and highlighting the strengths of the UK’s proposition.
- Keep pace with market trends, incentives and centres of excellence in the Philippines and the UK to identify commercial opportunities and provide informed advice to clients and stakeholders.
- Support the Country Director on inward investment objectives, which involve maintaining strategic investor relationships.
- Identify, develop and implement strategies to resolve market access barriers relevant to the sector/s, in partnership with colleagues leading on market access and trade policy colleagues.
- Collaborate with wider embassy colleagues, including regional and HQ colleagues and with other UK government agencies, to support UK climate change campaigns and economic objectives.
- Support VIP visits and provide sector related input into briefings for ministers and senior officials meetings as required.
- Contribute and participate in wider embassy initiatives while cooperating with colleagues to deliver the cross-UK Government Growth agenda from Manila.
- Some budget responsibility may be delegated on a project basis.

There is no line management responsibilities for this role, but will be accountable for managing assigned resources (manpower and funds) for specific events, projects, and official travel.

The applicant should have a tertiary degree preferably related in business, economics, and international relations, and with at least 3-4 years relevant work experience (eg on international trade, business development, trade promotion, government, marketing, etc)

Working Patterns:
The role is primarily carried out during normal working hours (36 hours per week, 8:30am–5pm, Monday to Friday). There may be occasional requirements to work evenings or weekends, with additional hours recognised and managed in line with local Terms & Conditions.
Other Information:
Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy Manila is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Philippine employment law.
