description of the Assignment:  UNDP Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean office wishes to Develop a comprehensive, practical, and user-friendly Irrigation System Guide for micro to small farms that supports farmers, extension officers, and agricultural planners in designing, selecting, and managing efficient irrigation systems suited to small-scale production


Period of services: 20 days of actual work spread  over a period of 2 months  

 

Professional qualifications: At least a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Irrigation and Water Management, or a related field.

Professional experience

•At least a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Water Resource Engineering, Agronomy, Irrigation and Water Management, or a related field

At least 5 years of relevant experience in water infrastructure design or community – based water supply systems

Kwoledge and skills
•Proven experience developing technical manuals or guides for smallholder agriculture

•Demonstrated ability to integrate gender – responsive and inclusive design principles. 
•Previous work experience in Caribbean SIDS or similar context. 
•Good analytical, organizational and management skills, proven experience in coordinating with national stakeholders and expert teams, organizing multi- stakeholder consultation processes, documenting results, and possessing effective communication skills.
•Good understanding of national policy and institutional structures, and ability to advise on institutional capacities and relations.
•Able to support, motivate and liaise effectively with communities and community groups. Sound cross-cultural, gender-awareness, interpersonal and networking skills.

•Ability to work and build partnerships with diverse stakeholders in the government, private and non-governmental sectors.

•Computer skills including Word processing, spread sheets, PowerPoint

•Experience in workshop facilitation.
•Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
