The British Embassy in Helsinki is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic, and consular interests overseas and is looking for a Market Adviser.
Main purpose of the role:
Support Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) pipeline development of Finnish companies interested in establishing operations in the UK and support. DBT (Department for Business and Trade) Finland Country Director’s work on attracting and delivering inward investment projects from Finland to the UK.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Scoping developments in Finland to identify potential companies and emerging sectors from the perspective of high value FDI potential.
- You will be expected to follow developments in the Finnish economy and business sectors to help identify Finnish companies that could have high value potential to establish a presence in the UK.
- You will work with the DBT Finland Country Director to build and manage company relationships and help provide information relevant to companies’ entry to the UK.
Promoting the UK as investment destination to companies in Finland. Build market knowledge and an understanding of the business environment as well as opportunities in the UK, especially as described in the UK’s Industrial Strategy to be able to discuss and promote opportunities in the UK for relevant Finnish companies.
Developing a network of stakeholders in the UK, including DBT HQ and partner organizations, to help identify the right delivery partners for FDI projects.
Reporting to timely capture, record and maintain information of interactions and services delivered on a CRM system.
Visits and Meetings: You will be expected to contribute to visits and engagements e.g. for HM Ambassador and visiting officials.
Communications: You will work with the communications team in the Embassy especially on social media outreach.

Our ideal candidate shows:
- fluency in English and Finnish at C1 level, both written and spoken, according to the CEFR framework*, or equivalent.
- Previous relevant work experience preferably in investment promotion or international business development.
- Interest in the Finnish economy and key sectors.
- University degree in a relevant field, such as business development or economics.
- Excellent organisational skills, an ability to prioritise tasks, handle routine work and work to deadlines.
- Fast-learning self-starter who can demonstrate initiative and resilience.

This is a full-time, 36.25 hours per week, fixed-term position. From time to time, staff may be required to work beyond their conditioned hours during the week or at weekends to support events. In such cases, staff are entitled to time off in lieu (TOIL). All TOIL must be approved in advance.
The appointment is subject to professional background check, security clearance and the successful completion of a 6-month probationary period.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Finland are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Finnish employment law and FCDO guidance for Country Based Staff.
Staff at the British Embassy Helsinki who are not subject to Finnish income tax (i.e. non-Finnish nationals) have a reference amount deducted from their gross salary. This abatement reflects the local tax that would otherwise apply, ensuring consistent net pay across roles.
Pension and unemployment contributions are deducted for all staff. Salary payments are reported to the Finnish Income Register in line with legal requirements.

The successful candidate will have access to a wide range of learning opportunities, including mandatory UK Government e‑learning, role‑ and sector‑specific training, and development activities offered across DBT and the wider FCDO network. There will also be opportunities to attend relevant internal and external seminars, events and training to support professional development in line with business needs.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Finland and be prepared to ensure that this right remains valid throughout the scope of the contract.
