Main purpose of Internship:
The UK’s Department for Business and Trade (DBT) promotes and supports bilateral trade and investment across the Latin America & Caribbean (LATAC) region. Promoting LATAC as a trading destination for UK businesses is a key strategic priority, as well as promoting the UK’s key industrial strengths, demonstrating its leadership, creativity and innovation, and positioning the UK as a key trading partner for the LATAC region.
DBT is recruiting a Data and Finance intern, part of the LATAC Operations Team, to support internal performance and finance monitoring and reporting, constantly evolving how we measure and demonstrate our impact. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Data and Performance and Head of Finance and will have regular contact with a broad range of colleagues in different LATAC countries, in the UK and beyond, and will provide important support to senior management, who depend on a solid evidence base to inform their decisions.
We are looking for a numerate candidate, with the ability to communicate clearly in a multicultural and regional team. Key skills include being a good planner, able to juggle competing demands, and be comfortable performing at speed. We expect the successful candidate to be keen to be part of a culture of excellence, respect and collaboration. experience of working in finance and data duties and/or administration is preferred but not essential.
Roles and responsibilities:
Data analysis, reporting and dashboards
- Support the Head of Data and Performance to track and monitor region’s performance and provide regular updates, monthly reports and data to senior leadership on performance against agreed objectives.
- Organise, maintain and update online performance dashboards.
- Provide assistance to regional teams on the use of management information tools, including Data Hub and Data Workspace.
- Support the realisation of performance conversations, bringing together senior leadership and functional leads to review performance.
- Attend and respond to ad hoc commissions from UK headquarters or regional teams, using internal and external data sources.
Finance and budget monitoring
- Provide finance support to the LATAC region by working directly with the Head of Finance on budget processes, including monitoring expenses, running financial reports, highlighting expenditure trends and risks, among others.
- Organise, maintain and update finance dashboards.
- Contribute to ensuring the network demonstrates value for money through accurate monitoring and reporting.
Business Planning
- Support the setting of ambitions and budgets during the Business Planning process by creating, receiving and organising files, and engaging with colleagues across the LATAC region.
Special Projects
- Lead on various data and finance projects across the region.
- Take on various ad-hoc admin support roles for the Operations team and other regional activities as required.

- Must be currently enrolled in undergraduate studies, in a Colombian university in a relevant course (Economics, Finance, Business Management, International Business, International Relations, Industrial Engineering, or similar). Applicants who do not meet this requirement will not be considered.
- Must have the availability of at least 6 months before graduation date (to complete the internship). Applicants who do not meet this requirement will not be considered.
- Availability to start their internship on the proposed date: To be defined with successful candidate (likely to be early July 2026)
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel.
- Strong organisational, analytical, communicational and proactivity skills.
Language requirements:
- Proficient in both English and Spanish

- Knowledge of Business Intelligence and data visualisation software (i.e., Amazon Quicksight.)
- Knowledge of data programming language (SQL.)
