Who We Are:
The British Embassy in Paris is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas, and the UK’s France Network. The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) at the British Embassy in Paris is seeking to recruit two Senior Trade & Investment Advisers to join our Advanced Manufacturing team, working across high‑priority sectors:
- Infrastructure (Construction, Rail & Logistics);
- Aerospace;
- Automotive.
The role:
As a Senior Trade & Investment Adviser, you will contribute directly to UK economic growth by identifying, promoting and delivering high‑value trade and investment opportunities between the UK and France. You will work closely with DBT colleagues in France, the UK and across Europe to:
- Increase UK exports to France;
- Address and resolve market access barriers;
- Attract high‑value French investment into the UK.
You will play an active role in delivering the Government’s priorities and the UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy, strengthening commercial relationships in some of the UK’s most strategically important sectors. A key element of the role is the ability to develop and deliver an effective sector strategy, ensuring your time and resources are focused on activity that delivers the greatest impact.
Key responsibilities
You will:
- Develop and deliver a strategy to build and manage a pipeline of high‑value French investors, supporting the successful delivery of their investments into the UK;
- Develop and deliver a strategy to support high‑potential UK exporters, helping them grow and succeed in the French market;
- Identify, research and help resolve market access barriers affecting UK companies exporting to France, working with businesses and government partners;
- Provide expert advice and briefings to ministers and senior officials on the strategic management of key company relationships, prioritising the most impactful accounts;
- Build and maintain a strong network of colleagues across the Embassy, UK‑based sector teams and other Government Departments, ensuring effective collaboration and information sharing;
- Spot emerging risks and opportunities, managing and escalating issues where appropriate;
- Deliver high‑quality written products, including briefing notes and readouts for ministers, senior officials and the Ambassador;
- Respond flexibly to ad‑hoc requests and commissions from colleagues in the Embassy and DBT headquarters;
- Delivery will include a broad range of activities such as in‑market introductions, company engagement, sector and policy research, and support to senior‑level visits.

Our ideal candidate shows:
- Professional proficiency written and spoken in English at a C1 level and French at a B1/B2 level English (aligned with the CEFR framework*);
- 2–3 years’ relevant experience in a commercial, business development or relationship‑management role;
- Demonstrable experience of project management, including planning, coordination and delivery;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders, commercial clients, external partners and a diverse Embassy team;
- Strong ability to manage competing priorities calmly and professionally, with close attention to detail;
- Comfortable working independently, able to quickly understand and manage complex issues;
- High levels of drive, enthusiasm and motivation, combined with the ability to deliver as part of a team;
- Proven ability to develop, mobilise and coordinate networks to achieve objectives;
- Strong customer focus, with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement in service delivery.

This is a full time, permanent contract. The position is based on a 35/h week. The monthly salary is 4745€ (gross). In addition, staff receive meal contribution.

In addition, there will be many opportunities to attend seminars and events on relevant issues. This is in addition to the induction programme offered to all staff.

Working Pattern: The position is based on a 35- hour working week.
This is a full-time position. Our team works flexibly, including some time working remotely. However, in line with current policy, the job holder will be expected to be in the office at least 60% of the week – and more often when required e.g. during events.
