American Goshawk Wildlife Technician (Urgent)

Tanner Environmental Services (TES) is hiring 2-3 field biologists for full-time seasonal positions surveying for American goshawks in either the Plumas or Eldorado/Stanislaus National Forests in California. Applicants must have the ability to work primarily independently, be comfortable hiking and driving forest service roads, take detailed field notes and fill out paperwork promptly and thoroughly. Experience surveying for American goshawks is preferred but not required (training will be provided). American goshawk surveys will begin June 1st and run to about the end of August.

Shared housing will be provided but extended periods of camping may be required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently and drive high clearance roads in remote areas
  • Ability to read topographic maps, use a compass, and navigate using GPS and/or mapping apps such as Avenza
  • Ability to follow standardized survey protocols
  • Physical fitness enabling off trail hiking in steep and rugged terrain
  • Minimum of one season of wildlife survey experience
  • Driver’s license required
